Cracked Allison Transmission Pan

My dear friend just had to have his American Eagle towed the other day as he discovered he was leaking transmission fluid while at a truck stop. Here's the story.

Stayed at a nice campground with beautiful new concrete pads. Departing the next morning he noticed the was a bit of a drop coming off the front edge of the pad. That was followed by a very solid "whack" when his rear tires came of the pad. Thinking he had hit the Receiver Hitch he went on down the road. A couple hours later he needed fuel and that's when he discovered the leaking tranny fluid. He was barely able to get the Eagle out of the Fuel Bay because of the slipping transmission....

The Eagle was towed to an Allison facility where it was determined the the base plate on the tranny had hit "Concrete" as it was imbedded in the base plate and consequently cracked it. A hose fitting was also cracked.

So the moral of this story is the be aware of the drop offs from your campsite. I'm pretty sure I would have done the same thing myself.

Can you post the name and location of that "nice campground with beautiful new concrete pads" so we can be sure not to go there and suffer the same consequence?

Thanks!

Should be covered by Insurance. My fuel tank was punctured by road debris and Progressive covered the claim the day it got to the shop to have it repaired. Seems like a similar thing.

I probably misstated...it was the oil pan and a hose fitting that was damaged.

I think that is where this is headed. He's got an Extended Warranty but the Service Manager is suggesting that this will likely need to be covered by the Insurance Policy. We'll see what happens.

I will have to look up the name of the CG.

The pads were new and I suspect they will be doing some more "landscaping" very soon. My friend is really pissed plus he's from NY so I suspect that he's had quite a conversation with the owner of the CG.
