Cracks in Fiberglass

Just noticed a cluster of hair line cracks on side of the rear cover on the back of our 2011 NewMar Dutch Star. This is not crazing but looks like like stress cracks; also notice an area on the opposite side that looks likes something is pushing from behind the rear cover. I really can't get a good picture of the cracks because of reflections. Anyone else had this problem? I will be calling NewMar on Monday; we bought this coach new May 12, 2012.

Thanks,
Terry

Expensive to repair so if it is covered under warranty have it corrected.

Please post up your findings.

Is it at the top of the cap, or down lower?

Realizing the photo might not show the cracks well, it will show the general area. Might be worth sending a photo to Newmar customer service as well.

The cracks are about half way up on the side of the end cap and the protrusion on the driver's side is in about the same place. I think I can get a photo around dusk when the glare is less. Will post as soon as I get a good photo.

Our new 2013 Dutch Star was in for other work and the service manager called and said there were stress cracks in the engine hood and rear cap. They said they drilled holes at the ends of the cracks, filled the cracks with resin and had to paint the cap and hood. All this on a coach that had about 200 miles since we bought it. I haven't seen the results, but expressed my concerns to Newmar asking that they guarantee that the results will not fade out and be an eyesore in a year or two. I haven't received a response.... it's been two weeks. I'm not happy with the quality..... the roof also leaked and I had several issues with other areas of the point that needed to be fixed

Sounds like you have the same problem I have; I am about 45 days beyond the warranty period. However i am going to push for this to be covered under warranty. I think other DS owners probably have this same issue and just have not noticed it. I also had a roof leak caused by an improperly installed a/c gasket. Newmar had to replace a section of the ceiling inside the MH.
Thanks for your comments

We've been in well over 100 rainy days and no leaks.

I just waxed the caps, neither has cracks.

Be 1 year in September and 10,000 miles. Lived in all but 3 of those months.

But please post some photos of the problem areas. Even if the cracks can't be seen in the photos, it will give others an idea of the area to keep an eye on.

That is an interesting spot for cracks. I'll keep checking mine.

Do keep us posted on your resolution.

It has been raining here in Virginia for days. Hopefully tomorrow I can get out to look at our 2012 DSDP and then report back.
