Crank up TV Antenna Sensor

The display unit on my Freightliner dash no longer gives me a warning when the crank up TV Antenna is up. There is a clear plastic vial (or switch) on the vertical part of the antenna that I thought had some kind of liquid in it that enabled it to sense whether it was vertical or horizontal. That vail is now dry. Did it have liquid in it at some point, or is my memory incorrect?

Any ideas on how to repair? Thanks for your help.

What you need is a 'tilt' switch, they used to contain mercury, not sure now. Lotsa cars use a tilt switch to turn on a light when the hood is opened, might go at it that way........Or replace with a microswitch, it has a little lever that when moved, changes the state of the switch. Mount the microswitch to the base of the antenna so that when it rises from the parked (down) position, the microswitch turns on the light. Same wires, no worries.
