Curious

I am the new owner of a 2005 Newmar Scottsdale 30-footer. Last night while reading the Owners Manual, I came across a section on the pull-out sofa in the main cabin. The operating instructions said the pulled-out sofa contained a hidden air mattress that could be deployed when using the couch as a bed. The previous owner never mentioned this while showing me how to operate the various components and I have never heard or read of such a thing before now. Do all Newmar's--old and new--contain an air mattrest? Since my coach is in still enroute for delivery, I can't check the sofa at the moment. But my curiousity is aroused. Can anyone allay it.

Depends on the floor plan. Some have a jackknife, some have the sofa bed with the air mattress.

"kennyray"....I've seen two types of air mattress sofas. Both were made by Flexsteel. In my 2005 Diplomat, it had a 3" mattress, that was topped with an air mattress. The air mattress came with a quick connect powered inflator. The two pieces folded out as one. It was one of the most comfortable sofa beds I ever laid on.

In my 2019 Dutch Star, it has what is called a Flip and Tumble sofa that does exactly that. It flips down and then pulls out. It has an air mattress attached to the back upright with Velcro straps. You unstrap the mattress, lay it out and it has a built in powered inflator. I haven't tried it yet, but expect it to be very comfortable.

Since your new to you RV is the same year as my Diplomat, I expect you may have the same mattress I first described. The only issue with that mattress…..you had to be very careful when folding it up, not to pinch the air mattress portion in the scissor mechanism.

Curious

Thanks for the quick, informed responses to my post. My curiosity has receded and I can go on to learning other things about my MH. I'm sure I'll find other surprises but I'll try not to make a pest of myself.

Welcome Ken to the forum and the world of Newmar.
Congrats on your Newmar here is a link to help you find out about your coach and a lot more, I would read some of the links you may need to check a few things so you know where some of the answers are and we are here to help also, BROCHURE, OWNERS GUIDE.
The coach came with a Ford chassis but it may have a Workhorse chassis, just let me know more links for you if you have that option.
The FlexSteel couch may have been a option also and made into a full size bed.

Thanks for the info on how to tap into Newmar's vast expertise. Wil make good use of it. By the way, my Scottsdale has a workhorse chassis with 8.1 Vortec engine. I've been told and read that that combination is no longer availabe but is much sought after. One more question on the couch bed--was the air mattress feature an optio? My reading of the Owner's Manual indicated it was a standard feature. The manual usually lists optional features.
