Dash Cams Revisited

Is the BlackVue 900S still the consensus choice for a high-end dash cam? Finally getting ready to pull the trigger on one and want to be sure nothing new has cropped up that I should be looking at.

And, on the BlackVue 900S, is the mount that comes with the unit sufficient, or are folks using one of the optional mounts?

Thanks for any input.

TJ

I bought mine a couple of years ago, a DOD model. I looked around, read the reviews and searched for certain features that I wanted. I wanted one that had an HD camera, GPS location, time and date stamp, impact stamping and saving of footage. I also added a larger SD card so it would record for 8 hours before writing over. Sometimes the footage is worth saving, like while you're driving into a National Park. I also looked for one that did well in the heat.

I hooked mine to ignition power so that it comes on automatically when I start and stop the coach. It also has a small screen so you can see what it's recording and then shuts off after a minute or so.

With all that said, I can't tell you what's currently the best, what I looked for a few years ago. I'm guessing there is at least 30-40 companies making cameras, which really blurs the field.

I have the DR900S-2CH. It gets great 4k video in the day time and the cloud access "works sometimes". 4K is nice but it takes a lot of space on the SD card particularly if you have the two channel version. Low light capability sucks with this camera.

I really like a "cheap" alternative I am using now. The camera is just a $55 outdoor WiFi web camera running at 1080P. The camera has great low light capability and accepts a 128GB SD card so it will hold hours of video. It is a P2P camera so you can view it any time from your iPhone since you will have your new PepWave modem/router installed soon.

Outside camera is sitting on entry door awning cover looking forward. Inside camera just sitting on a shelf in an open cabinet.

Here are a couple of shots taken from my coach sitting in the storage yard here in San Luis Obispo this evening.

As we covered in the earlier thread, the internet is all about the internet of things (IOT) now. Good example.

I have the 750 and really like it. I kinda wish I would have the 4k but the 750 is very clear. Night video is pretty good. Not sure how it compares to the 4k. I love the mount. I move it from my truck to the coach in seconds. super easy to do. I just bought a second power cord and mount. It would be nice to have a side by side of the 750 and the 900 to see how it compares. Function and operation has been very simple. Very happy with the camera.
