I have a 2002 DSDP 4097. The time has come to upgrade the original Dash radio to one with modern functionality. The old is a sony.

Should I install a home theater receiver or a soundbar setup that has surround sound and leave the dash radio for only playing stereo? Can't help but think a home theater receiver would be a power hog and are quite hot & heavy.

Does anyone have suggestions for a stereo head unit that will accept audio inputs from a Blu-Ray player and/or?

What installation kit did Newmar use, GM, Ford, Chrysler template/ wiring?

I also need to install a new rooftop antenna, (a tree won that fight) snapped off right at the ball mount and after hours searching the interweb came up empty.

I did a little digging into the dash yesterday, the original Sony CDX-CA700X radio uses Sony's obsolete uni-link that goes to the XA-300 . What options do I have to replace the radio and still keep the ability to play through the ceiling speakers with zone control and imput switching?

The '02 DSDP 4097 stereo is a single DIN radio, has anyone converted to a double DIN radio, if you have how'd you make the change? I've looked through the QT's and did't find answers to my needs. Can the backup monitor be relocated? Where/how?

On our 2004 MADP, I replaced the old factory single DIN stereo (that had a flip out screen that displayed the backup camera and Trip-Tec output) with a modern single DIN Pioneer stereo and a separate 7" video screen (Amazon) mounted under the cabinet over the drivers seat. I connected the backup camera and Trip-Tec video outputs behind the dash to the screen with a wireless RCA connector (Amazon). It works OK, but I will probably snake a RCA cable from behind the dash to the overhead cabinet instead to get a better connection.

The stereo audio now plays through the factory speakers mounted in the front and bedroom ceilings. This winter, I will try to find a way (probably that same RCA cable carrying the video) to connect the stereo audio output to the original Bose 3-2-1 surround system.

It can be done.

If you look in the QT's 1 & 2 link to the near end of link you will see the things I used my combination of Sony units for up grading the systems in my coach.
You can use sound bars now or any other combinations of radio's.

Was your factory stereo a sony that used the uni-link into an xa300 then to the source selector in the cabinet above the driver seat ? If it was how did you retain the ability to use the factory speakers mounted in the front and bedroom ceilings? Wasn't that a function of the uni-link and xa300 ?

What model pioneer stereo did you install? Did the pioneer have an aux input for sound feed from the source selector TV/DVD/SAT output?

Sorry for the questions, I'm still trying to understand how all the original equipment worked together.

I just looked at your post about upgrading the AV, in it you said this,

Without the Original sony stereo is the XA300 still able to send sound to the ceiling speakers without the sony unilink to control it's output?
I have THIS stereo unit sitting in the garage that I could install if it would work. What leads me to believe that it will not is the sony had an rca patch cable from it to the xa300 , The JVC linked to above, has no rca inputs.

As you can probably tell, I still don't understand how all the original AV equipment works together.

Your taking this old man back 14 years, the rca jacks on your bluetooth unit are what?
The ones on x-300 maybe inputs, there is also a 6 0r ten DVD input into x-300 also not sure you can use.
You maybe able to go to the SONY web site and get the info on X-300 giving you the info you need and if you move down the thread you will see wiring thats that has wiring info in above cabinet as to what I did to separate the front overhead spk's and kitchen spk's.
You have all the spk wiring on back of new radio for what looks like a 5 spk sound system from the receiver of radio. All you need is a sub-woofer.

Do you have an understanding as to what function the xa300 provides?

The RCA jacks on the back of the JVC are speaker and sub woofer pre-amp outputs for an amplifier. The regular speaker outputs are just un-terminated wires.

No, the original factory stereo was not a Sony. No Uni-Link, no xa-300. It was a Pioneer unit with 6 CD changer, flip up video screen and GPS and it had no connection to the factory installed Boise 3-2-1 sound system that uses proprietary speaker wires to the Bose speakers and subwoofer (I can't wait to replace it with a modern unit). The Boise sound system did not and does not output to the ceiling speakers.

The front and bedroom ceiling speakers were/are wired directly to the front/rear Pioneer dash stereo outputs. I would like to find a way to input the dash stereo output into the main audio receiver, but that has not a priority and will probably not be a priority when I upgrade the old receiver because it will have many capabilities that will be redundant with the dash stereo.

The new stereo is a Pioneer DEH-X7800BHS. It does have a 3.5 audio input on the front but that may not work for you.

It is a challenge to upgrade old/obsolete factory audio/visual equipment. The best way is probably to take it all out and put together a good quality, modern modular system and get rid of any proprietary connections and "integrated" subsystems.

I'd love to just scrap it all and re-do with all modern stuff. What keeps me from do that is the difficulty in routing HDMI and Cat6 throughout the coach. After reading all the posts about trying to route wires and the obstacles encountered, maybe the easiest way would be through the basement and up the wall cavities, to their destinations?

On ours, I am keeping the factory coax going from the BOMB to the bedroom TV because standard def is OK for me with the 24" Vizio back there. No need to string new HDMI. Also, no need for stringing new cat 6 because the satellite receiver, OTA, cable, Blue Ray DVD, main TV and audio receiver are all in the front cabinets. I would be stringing some new speaker wire in the living room (if I replace the Bose receiver with a modern receiver because of the proprietary Bose speaker wires) and an RCA cable from the dash up to the upper front cabinet for the backup camera feed and audio from the dash radio if I go that way.

Your JVC needs more equipment than needed if you just had a plain HF/Stereo receiver the unit I used years ago had all that and would work traveling down road off the small inverter I had.
PDR John's MOD LINKS in QT's # 3 has some good info on HDMI and use of WIFI through coach for rear tv's and outside plus spk's changes, maybe you should read for ideas you have many options to convert your system.
