DC Power to Refrigerator Norcold 1200

Dutchstar 3815 2005 Norcold Refrigerator

Xantrex RC7 inverter/charger

Refrigerator works fine hooked into external power.. While driving and the refrigerator on gas, I lose DC power intermittently.. the inverter charger shows no DC power and the fridge goes off. When I put the generator on line, it does not change anything...it still shows NO DC..

Thanks in advance for any help with this matter.. Keith

Hi Knot-Fly'n,
Can you expand on the intermittent power loss?

1. The DC power returns without you doing anything?
2. The DC power returns only after you connect to shore power?
3. The DC power is available when first needed but gets lost at some point and stays lost?

Was your Norcold part of the recalled ones? And if so has the recall been done, which I believe a switch was added to shut off the power if the boiler if temperature went above a preset temperature.

Have you checked to see whether other 12 VDC devices do or don't work when the fridge does not?

Hi Knot-Fly'n,
Interesting problem. Refrigerator 12 VDC comes from the batteries via the 12 VDC fuse buss. This buss is located, most likely, in the bathroom. It will have almost all the coach house 12 VDC circuits. The inverter is not in the refrigerator circuit. The refrigerator needs 12 VDC when it is on propane or A/C electric. In other words all the time. I do not know NorCold. However, consider checking the propane supply and flow. If the NorCold was not getting propane I'm not sure what the error code would be.

Yes, one thing the OP is overlooking is the fact that the fridge control board runs on 12 VDC no matter whether the coach is hooked to shore power or not.

We don't have all of the information as yet to make a logical conclusion as to what the problem may be.

Cool DC power to norcold 1200 fridge

Think I found the problem after checking the voltage at the fuse. It read about 6v Plugged ground power in and it read 13.5v--checked the house batteries---they were down to about 3v---I thought the 12v came from the chassis batteries--wrong--the batteries are 5 years old---guess time for new ones--Thanks for all the help--Knot-fly'n

Smile Norcold fridge 1200

Sorry for the delay on reporting the fix on my fridge. It was the ground wire not making a good ground. Intermittenly of and on. Thanks everyone for the advice.

Thanks for the follow-up. Not many posters come back and state the fix for the initail problem.

Glad you wee able to resolve the problem.

It points out what many others fail to do yearly is to go throughout the coach and tighten up ALL electrical connections. Sometimes a coating of Blue Loctite helps.
