In July 2016, we sent a request for bid by email to five dealers nationwide. The three best were within $4,000 of one another. They were:

- Steinbring
- Midway
- Coachlight

We chose Midway for our 2017 Dutch Star 4369. We were delighted with the straight forward and honest sales transaction, the delivery and setup and the after sales service.

We were also impressed with Lindstrom but did not want to pay California sales taxes and didn't want to take delivery out of state to avoid the taxes. That said, I was very impressed with Tom Lindstrom and feel he would have been great to deal with had it not been for the sales tax issue.

I suggest you call the dealer first and introduce yourself before sending the request for bid.

Good luck on your purchase.

I will at least visit two; NIRVC and Independence. To my understanding if you buy out of state you do not pay sales tax, but pay your state's sales tax once you register. NIRVC is in Georgia so that will be a straightforward transaction, Independence is in Florida so I assume that I will write a nice sized check at my local DMV when I register in my state. Out of state dealers do not charge you the tax if you are out of state (at least that is my understanding). California must handle it differently when an out of state buyer purchases a large ticket item.

Dealer Quote Strategy

My understanding is if you are an out of state buyer-you can buy from a CA dealer & as long as you don't take delivery in CA they won't take sales tax.

Any other place will put a 30 day temp tag on, you pay no taxes until you register in your home state. If that is the case with California, and I decided to use Tom Lindstrom, I would do factory pick up so as to not take delivery in California. In Georgia it is a one time tax and ad valorum of either 7 or 8 percent depending on your county, then an annual $20 tag fee.

I still have about two years before I am very serious, but I like to prepare (or overly prepare). If I am going to spend $200K+ I want to leave no stone un-turned.
Heading to NC from the Tampa RV show we stopped at Independence RV and met with David Scott. He's a straight shooter and no pressure guy. He did give us a price on my forthcoming request for proposal, and lots of valuable information but in the end was a little higher in price than NIRVC. We would have felt very comfortable working with him. At NIRVC we worked with and bought from Tony Morse. Again a good guy to work with. We ordered and several weeks later went through building #7 at Newmar on three different days when our CS was in construction. Wonderful experience. At delivery in Atlanta we had a very in depth PDI, parts of two days, and stayed at NIRVC's facility four nights with technicians checking with us daily on our understanding of the coach. This proved to be invaluable being this is our first RV. NIRVC is 300 miles closer to us than Independence RV but either dealer would get a thumbs up from us. Happy RV hunting.
