Dehumidifier

I've heard of folks running a dehumidifier during the winter but I was wondering if running one during the summer would help the ac any. It's real humid here and I have a 5 gallon bucket catching my run off to keep the ground from becoming a swamp. I get about 1 bucket full a day.

If your A/C is cycling (i.e. it achieves the setting and turns off) and your coach is still humid, then a dehumidifier would probably help. Know that each one of your A/C units probably has 3 or 4 times the drying capacity of the average dehumidifier though.

IMO running a dehumidifier would be a mistake. It would only make your A/C work harder because a dehumidifier produces heat as it takes the moisture out of the air. You would still have to empty the dehumidifier bucket along with emptying your five gallon bucket outside. Even if you had a dehumidifier inside your A/C's will still take moisture out of the air which will be dumping into the 5 gallon bucket. So I see you having to dump 2 buckets plus working your A/C's harder. Not a good idea IMO.

We run a dehumidifier on our boat all the time. During the summer it only runs at night. It will generate a lot of heat as others have said. The type we have either has to have the water collector emptied every day, it shuts down automatically when full, or we can connect a hose to it and let it drain into the shower or someplace else. It still amazes me how much water it collects every day. It does keep things dry and especially eliminates odor problems from hidden mold and mildew. We're in Florida. Chuck

There are basically two types of dehumidification: heated and chemical. Heated would, obviously, ad heat in your RV. Chemical will remove the humidity with no additional heat (that you would ever notice).

I plan to use chemical dehumidification, probably Damp-Rid in a bucket that I simply toss in the trash, or find a way to make my own bucket to use a bulk sized bag of dehumidification crystals. Something I can put a lid on when in motion, and maybe put that into an additional container to contain any spills Justin Case.
