Finally getting rid of the rock riddled DS. Pic 1 shows the dark section currently in process, pic 2 closeup of before, pic 3 after-paint underneath basically perfect except where rocks went thru the DS.

Notice the difference just in the reflections!

Best method pull off with NO heat gun, clean with acetone and wax. Does take time but will be well worth finished product. No more DS!!!!!!!!

If your rock riddeled DS is off, what do you think it will look like after a while with no protection?

Two years ago, Diamond Shield agreed for $400, to remove and replace their product because of mold growing underneath. I declined and have been a very vocal unhappy customer. The mold has gotten worse and some folks have said the newer version of the product is better. Last week I called them to see if the offer was still on the table and give them a chance to turn an unhappy customer into a supporter. They now want hundred's more and I declined again. I told them if they would reconsider to give me a call. If I don't hear from them, I'll try to take it off myself.

Sorry, I misspoke when saying "rock riddled". It was very few rock marks(and they actually went thru the DS and into the paint). The MANY marks were from bugs/butterflys/love bugs, etc. that over the past two years would not completely come off with our daily cleaning. The DS had softened allowing penetration of the bugs into it and making it impossible to remove them completely. Apparantly the five plus years and the 65,000 plus miles took its toll on the DS.

But what looked even worse was the clouding of the DS which made the front of the coach look hazy. It was far worse on the top dark paint than on the lower biege paint(which I have not removed yet). You can see the DS is NOT clear after removing it.

Have had previous coaches without DS it was no problem removing the bugs daily and rock damage was minimal. Did not orginally really want the DS but thought it was worth a try since it was a standard feature from Newmar(my bad). My biggest complaint was the fact that it was far more difficult to daily clean the DS than paint or fiberglas without the DS.

Looks like a new coach now and with a little wax and daily cleaning will last a long time.

If I could wave a magic wand and have my Diamond Shield disappear I would do it in an instant. At first I thought DS was a solution looking for a problem, now I think it's a problem in it's own right. Clouds, bug stains, can't be cleaned well, -- have not had mold yet but looking forward to that thrill in the future.

I removed it myself. Very painstaking but successful. Used Xylene to remove the adhesive left behind. My DS was almost black. Now the front of the coach looks like new. No more Diamond Shiled for this buggy.

I'm interested in reading how you get the DS off. I'm of the belief that a few coats of Liquid Glass would afford some protection once the DS was removed.
I've used Liquid Glass on the front, if not the entire vehicle, of all my cars and trucks for years with real good results.

Just in the last 6 months our DS has started to stain. I thought it was improper cleaning on our part. From reading this I guess it is mold.

We attempted to clean our like the manufacturere stated and it still started to turn colors. After a couple of years it got so discolored and ugly looking I finally decided to just tear it off. It took me over a week but after it was off I really like the look. The secret is PATIENCE. Tear it off Very Slowly....a millimeter at a time otherwise you might wind up with big areas of paint coming off with it. The way I started was doing the DS around the door handles in order to get an idea of how it was going to be on the front of the coach. Good Luck.

How do we get that DS "stuff" off??? I have heard that warming with a hair dryer and simple peeling it off works?

Why on earth does Newmar put DS on in the first place?? Seems everybody hates the stuff!!!!
