Have a question. Unfortunately we didn't notice this until it is too late to do anything about it (100 miles down the road), but hopefully will save us for the next time. We filled today at a Flying J a little south of Indianapolis. The receipt lists the advertised price, the cash discount and then a line that says "DSL NO ICC # SALES TAX" and the amount is nearly $28.
So those of you familiar with Indiana, is this something you can have negated if you speak up, or do they charge sales tax on diesel purchases in Indiana to the non business person (we were at the truck pumps). We did by gas for the Jeep at a Sam's Club the prior day and this wasn't an issue, so if at the truck pumps only we can deal. However if this is normal, we will just be sure never to fill up in Indiana again.
Thanks up front.

Donna, the way I read your receipt is that since you had no ICC number you were charged sales tax, which I am relatively certain is the way it should've been done.

Unfortunatilly you are in one of the few states that charges sales tax on fuel-gas and diesel. The sales tax just raised to 7% on 4/1/08. We get to pay this all of the time. Sorry you didn't know about the tax. Indiana Journey

Everytime we leave Indiana to go down to Talladega, AL for the NASCAR races there we stop and fuel up in Kentucky at mile marker 1 on I-65 (southern end of Ky) either going or coming back. It is always cheaper there than here in Indiana. You can check Flying J's web site a day ahead of time to make sure KY is cheaper, just use RV diesel pricing.
Now I generally top off at the Flying J on I-65 just south of Indy on the way home, but thats so we can go on the next trip without going back to the south side of Indy. Not many choices on the north side that one can take a big diesel motor home into.

Yup, commercial trucks are exempt from the fuel sales tax in Indiana since they pay a seperate highway use tax. If you fill up at the truck island without an ICC# you pay the added tax.
Clayton is right about KY. When we are going southeast we always fill up at a Flying J in KY. Usually the one on I75 in Walton, KY.
Last stop cost me $965, but I'm good until I get back south later this summer.
