Onan recommends API CE oil, but in a call to Cummins Power South, the service tech said they use CJ-4 as the CE is an obsolete API category.

Weight of oil depends on climate. I use 15W-40 since I am rarely below freezing.

Hi Davebr,
I use Penzoil 15W-40 in all my diesel engines. While everyone may have a brand they prefer to use, any major brand oil should be fine. Make sure the label says for diesel engines. 15W-40 is the most common weight.
