digi-shield vs diamond shield question

Our coach has digi-shield that's gotten very dull. Not just the front but also the strips on the grab bar and entry door. Our previous coach had diamond shield which didn't get dull. A friend's '07 EXDP with diamond shield looks much better than my '09.

Am I alone with this issue?

Yes, I have the same problem with my 2009. Thought about calling the company and see what they may recommend.

When the fellow from Diamond Shield repaired mine, he recommended a plastic polish to keep it looking good.

John,

Since when doesn't Diamond Shield turn dull? Mine seemed to go dull a lot. I used to own auto detail shop's many years ago and in the end catered only to customer's with high end car's. I never had experience with Diamond Shield in my life until I bought my coach. I decided to go ahead and try whatever and figure the stuff out on my own. I found Maguiars swirl remover with a Porter Cable orbital polisher will make it look like new. I've never even heard of digi-shield so I can't say for sure but I bet it would be the same result.

Is Digi-Shield what Newmar uses on new Mountain Aires?

Adam

Hi racer0624,
None of these coatings are permenant. After 5 6 years in the south Florida sun, I got tired of the mold (brown/black) spots and dull look. I just removed the Diamond Shield and will go to a bra setup in a month or two.

If at all possible, I will avoid all clear plastic "shields" in the future.

Adam, I had diamond shield on my 08 and it always had a gloss look, never got dull. I have been working on the 09 and its coming along but still shows dull for the most part. I have used mcguires, orbital polisher, and lots of hand waxing and its slowly coming along. Thanks, John

Diamond Shield has a new product they are using this year. It's called Nano Fusion. I have it on my Bus. It's more durable, more transparent and is very clear. check it out!

DS is just plastic and can be treated as such to regain "shine." Just keep in mind it is a "soft" plastic. I fix DS surface scratches (and even gouges basically through the plastic) with wet/dry sandpaper used wet and by hand 400->800->1200->2000 and then use a random action orbital and standard sponge polish pad (Griot's orange pad) at a moderate/high speed first using something aggressive like McGuires aluminum polish followed by 3M plastic polish (McGuires plastic polish never seemed to work for me). Instead of the plastic polish I have also run standard paint polishes (Griot's #1 works great). Have not tried Griot's plastic polish.

For every type of plastic it seems I have to experiment with what combination of pads/speeds/polish works best for that plastic. I can't seem to find one polish regime for all plastics.

I have to say that after 5 years my DS is still looking new - doing nothing to it - and the several, small repaired areas are very hard to detect. Note that I do not park in a Florida type humid sun for long although I do park at length directly facing what you might call Colorado type dry direct sun..
