DirectTV system loading: what am I missing?

This afternoon, I saw a Dutch Star being driven slowly through the RV resort with its OTA antenna fully extended. Thinking that the driver was about to leave the resort, I pointed to the antenna to let him know it was up. He nodded, stopped, rolled down the window and told me "its the only way I can get my DirectTV system to load."

A pretty close look did not reveal the existence of a satellite dish or dome atop the coach. What am I missing here? I didn't think DTV was available via an OTA antenna.

Was this in one of the states where "wacky tobacky" is legal ? Was this person wearing a tin foil hat ? Was there a distinct aroma of moonshine in the air ? Was he dragging several miles of coax behind the rig ?

Absolutely no clue how he expected to receive DirecTV without the right equipment.

Was it a straight bat wing or did it have an internet antenna attached?

Looked like a straight bat wing antenna to me.

I don’t care what antenna he has or doesn’t have, if it only connects while drive around what happens when he pulls in to a spot? This is crazy
Is it possible that he was driving somewhere to purchase a new antenna and they needed to “load” the new antenna into his cargo bay?[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Maybe he meant “The” TV and he was dictionally challenged, and it came out “Dee” TV. Other than that, or the foil hat comment, I don’t have a clue what he was trying to accomplish.

Maybe he was pulling your leg, as he was unable to admit he left the antenna up due to embarrassment.
