Started the 6.5 gen the other day and noticed the line voltage was not true, varrying 6 volts, will this hurt anything?

It may or may not be, we need to know a little more. What model, year is it? Any load on it when the voltage was varying? How did the generator sound, was it normal drone or was it surging? 6 volts is not really bad, especially if the load was changing while you were measuring it. However, it could mean that the controls are failing and you may be lucky enough to have gotten an early warning.

rlc: I'd say you're getting an early warning. 160 hours is not much for these genny's, our last one had over 600 and still going strong when we sold the coach, so I'd suspect the electronics going bad instead of the mechanical stuff wearing out. If it is an Onan I believe any Cummins dealer will service it.

Good luck!
