DIY Cedar Lined Closet
Just completed cedar lining a bedroom wardrobe closet in my 2016 Ventana LE. The cost was $80.00 for the cedar planks and subfloor adhesive. I used the 48" by 3-3/4" CedarSafe ProPak (35 sq.ft.) and 2 tubes of 10oz Loctite Pro Line 400 Subfloor adhesive. The total closet used about 22-1/2 sq. ft. of planks and 1-1/2 tubes of adhesive. I choose to use adhesive instead of nails, because I felt it would be a quicker installation and didn't want to worry about hitting anything behind a wall.
I started with the bottom, then the side walls and the back wall last. This way the back wall planks are pushing against the planks on the both side walls. I did dry fit each wall, by using a 2 x 4s to hold the planks in place, but a second set of hands would have been better.
Most planks were cut only once for length. To not leave a gap I had to cut the top planks down to 1-1/4". The plank thickness had to be reduced for the left side bottom plank and the right side of all the bottom planks to account for the mouldings. Recommend looking at all the planks, before starting to cut, because there were a few planks that were not the full 48" length.
I wasn't sure how much adhesive to apply so I swirled/overlapped it to give it more thickness. The method did work well, you can feel that you're getting a good contact between the plank and wall when you press on it.
I cut the planks in about 3-4 hours, because I did it over a couple of days and went in and out of the coach to double check. The actual installation of the planks took less than an hour.
