Normally the trans filters are inside trans may be a add-on by previous owner trans fluid does cool through radiator or one mounted in front of radiator.

I believe the OP was asking for help not an insult about not knowing which filter is which. This forum is for those wanting to help others, feel free to bash someone on another forum just not here.

I have a '97 f53 chassis with the 7.5L engine, to the best of my knowledge Ford did not produce the F53 in 1998. It was held over to 1999 as the new 6.8 L V-10 engine/chassis was introduced. It is possible you have a Ford F53 chassis with the V-10 engine with a build date of 1998, but the chassis would be titled as a '99 model.
If you have a V-8 engine like mine, it has a very standard oil filter accessible from under the engine, unless someone installed an after market remote location filter kit. I'm not sure but I think the V-10 also has a standard oil filter under the engine, but may have been relocated with an add on engine oil cooler kit.
Hope this helps

My Allison 5 speed has an external canister filter. For the original poster...if it's any consolation you're not alone. One time changing my oil, I started to drain the tranny filter by mistake and on my last oil change I took out the drain plug on the transmission pan instead of the oil pan. I've done my own auto maintenance all my life. I think I'm either not focused or it's just a fact of old age. I lost less than a quart of Transynd each time, so I wasn't completely brain dead.

I just noticed a sticker on the F-53 Chassis had a 1998 year as the manufacture date. Newmar installed the coach on the Chassis in 1999... the oil filter is the one mounted on the Engine underneath the drivers side... Thanks for the info on your rig. Every bit of info helps that's for sure!! Have a great week..
