Dometic Brisk II install on Newmar

Bit the bullet ... bought 3 new Brisk II rooftop units and a new CCC2 thermostat. I will begin the install soon and provide pictures. The Brisk II units will replace 10 year old Penguin (original model) and will require reworking the roof plenum. As many Newmar owners are aware, there have been some issues reported with Penguin II units ... so, I'm trying the Brisk II with which I have had previous good performance.

Bruce

I'm not familiar with the Brisk but thought that the install would be the same as the Penguins. Where did you get the information about having to modify.

The base of the Brisk II is very similar to the Blizzard. The old Brisk (Brisk 1) base is very similar to the old Penguin base and the old DuoTherm. The Brisk II is about 1 1/2" offset (of center) to the passenger side.

This is the Brisk II.

BTW, another difference between the Penguin II and Brisk II is that the Brisk II does not have an integrated controller. The Brisk II requires a standalone controller. However, although not documented, the Brisk II has a moulded compartment next to the evaporator that holds the controller. I'll post some pics tomorrow. This is a similar arrangement to the controller in the Blizzard (but the controller is a separate purchase for the Brisk II).

Got it. Let me know if you need the templates that I made for my Blizzard installation.

Thanks, mine might be different but I might take you up on it. Right now, I'm leaning towards the warm/cold swap. I mostly have all staggered vents except 1 in the hall toilet room. Pretty sure it's a non-issue.

BTW the old Brisk was also known as the Brisk Air if you see it mentioned.

No problem .... all this stuff is related to substitutes for failing/aging A/C on Newmars. We'll all need to do something sooner or later.

Here is a picture of the Brisk II with the moulded pocket for the controller. The cable is resting in the pocket. All the plugs on the cable match the receptacles on the controller. The 120vac wiring will be joined in the j-box that is part of the controller housing.

Thanks! ... it's gonna' be different ... and custom. Even the plenum will need to be drastically modified.

Couldn't hurt! But, as far as I know, the only NEW A/C unit that fits the existing roof plenum is the Penguin II. I have chosen to not use Penguin II units. Atwood, Coleman, and other Dometic units won't line up without modification. This is unique to the Newmar duct layout. Non-Newmar owners don't have a problem.

Ran into issue #1 .... Unit #3 (rear) has no 12vdc feed. I will run a feed from Unit #2 .... as soon as I find my wire puller.

Issue #2 ... an odd shaped crossmember is welded diagonally (sort of) across the square hole. I'll cut it out and replace with a straight piece (it's not structural).
