Dometic Penquin 1 Shroud Replacment
I recently read on one of the blogs here of replacing the Dometic Penquin I Air Conditioner shroud with a shroud from a Penquin II.
The writer said the P II shroud wasmade of a heavier material and withstood UV damage better.
Has anyone done this and if so how much modification was needed to make it work?
Thanks,
Chuck

I don't know about stronger but I bought two shrouds off someone in Canada. They are white and are for straight Penquin AC's. They fit the heat pumps but no holes in side.I have the heat pumps so I bought black ones from PPL in Texas with the holes in the drivers side for the heat pumps. I think I paid $99 each. Still have them in the box.

I found the shrouds with no side holes with no problem. Had to work to find the ones with holes on the side for the heat pumps, I could tell no difference in material or thickness. Even though I got white and did not need to paint them, I shot white paint on them to help with the sun. Hot mine from Camping World for 94.00.

I've never seen a white shroud on an Essex .They were painted the dark color like the coach, that's why I bought the black ones. Can't really tell the difference, but My other half didn't like the white one because they didn't match. So I have two in a box that I'm not going to use except they are for the AC Penguin, not the Heat pump 15,000. Still work, but didn't have vent holes in drivers side like the originals. Trying to give them away??? Anybody????

On 07 an up they are all white, they are hidden by the awnings. I would like the covers. I will pay to ship them to me.

They are for the AC unit's they don't have the holes needed for the heat pump.
PS I bought the black ones with the holes from PPL back in Nov last year. The went up by about $50 since then I see. Glad I bought two extras.
You guys with the '07 on up Essex's. Do you have front top damage from low trees? I'd rather replace a $150 shroud then paint a front cap. Damn antennas ain't cheap though.

I broke one of mine yesterday (washing roof and leaned too hard on the shroud) but I also have the heat pumps so I can't use them either.

Deen,
I have a big 'ol crack in my front one. I am going to call Adventure RV tomorrow to see if they use NTP in Wilsonville as a warehouse. I know Tweety's does and they allow Pick-up/Will-Calls to save shipping. I'll let you know what I find out.

If the crack is not bad you can use a automotive fiberglass repair kit and fix the shroud. Apply the fiberglass on the inside and it will look good as new and unless someone is on the roof they will never know.

Thx Iron Man but our coach is a 2000 and spent most of its early life in AZ in the sun. The cover is getting pretty brittle. I think it may be time to replace them both.
