Has anyone recently had a Dometic refrigerator stop working because it leaked cooling solution?

Hi - That's a well known issue and in fact can lead to some devastating consequences. It can be responsible for a coach fire. Do have the unit looked at as soon as possible. Hopefully it is another malfunction but if the tube has burned through you have a large expense headed your way. Sorry for the bad news.

No coolant......no cooling effect.

Overheating occurs ....high temp switch shuts down ALL DC to fridge (IF equipped)

Yellowish residue/power around burner area....cracked tubing
(sodium chromate---anti-ruct inhibitor)

Cooling unit can also quit cooling due to obstructions/blockages INSIDE the tubing (no leaks)
Cause-----off level operation(s). Sodium Chromate crystallizes from overheating due to lack of proper gravity flow. Crystals plate out...accumulate overtime until blockage
Gradual loss of cooling until NO cooling

Replacing unit now, 14 yr. Old so it did well. Rebuilt unit. Opened door weeks ago and ammonia smell was horrid. No fire thankfully and we happened to be around home base when it went out.

Same refrigerator problem-Dometic rm2862

I understand your problem well, as our dometic just quit after 14 yrs. I thought there was a fix, until i discovered the Ammonia leak in the tubing/cooLing unit.
I am replacing the unit with a new one or new cooling unit depending on what the rv tech. says. Does anyone know if it will fit out the entry door, according to demensions it looks like it will, with just about a inch to spare? RM 2862 model

For the cost of a replacement Dometic or an Amish unit, plus labor, you could probably buy a residential fridge of similar size and a couple of batteries (assuming you need them) to power it.

IMHO, the only advantage of a propane fridge over a residential is the ability to run off propane. Otherwise, residential fridges cool better and recover faster, they are better insulated, they are more reliable, they aren't nearly as sensitive to being unlevel, they rarely are blamed for fires and manufactures by and large aren't involved in class action lawsuits and massive recalls concerning their refrigerators.

If your propane fridge is dying/dead, its time to switch.
