Don't Ignore Hollow Ice Cubes!

It took a while, but I figured it out and am thankfully back up and running! Problem was I should not have ignored the "hollow ice cube warning".

We are soon to conclude our 8 week maiden voyage and over the past few weeks, I had noticed but not given much thought to the few very thin, glass-like, hollow ice cubes being made along with "normal" ice cubes. Well, this morning, I attempted to open our Whirlpool freezer drawer and it would not open - I mean it was S T U C K.

After giving it some thought, I turned it off and after returning about 9 hours later, I was able to open it. I found that over the duration of our trip, and due to the un-level full wall slide issue, our ice maker was overflowing / leaking a small amount of water each time it refilled after making fresh cubes. Over time the mini-glacier grew and eventually surrounded the drawer preventing it from opening. Was very happy my wife packed a hair dryer!

Thanks for posting this heads up. I'm sure others will be wary of these hollow ice cubes if they see them. 👍

Some mess Jeff, is it resolved or is there another trip in the works or maybe a Newmar Mobil Tech in your area that might help.

Unfortunately a permanent fix will only be after a trip to Newmar next spring when our full wall slide will get the new adjustable arms in order to level our FWS. It really slopes down and outward which causes water to spill out of the ice-maker and onto the freezer floor; and, after time, it simply builds up.

As a temporary fix, I am going to get out the refrigerator manual to see if I can un-level it to compensate for the un-level FWS floor. If not, I will have to check and remove ice accumulation weekly. Guess it could be worse! ha
