Door Awning broke

My Oasis door awning sprung out on its own and wouldn't retract. After taking the cover off I can see the motor and geartrain functioning but the roller is loose.
GaryKD described a repair option and I was going to try it but my motor wiring doesn't have any exposed connector.

My question - Do I just cut the wires or is there a connector hidden behind the gob of sealant where the wires exit from my KSDP?

This thread may help with awning.
As far as the wires go pry out the sealant from hole so you can pull wires out you may have a connector on wires or wire nuts so you can disconnect to work on awning.
You can reseal hole after its fixed.

Followup:
To answer my own question, the wires are connected with butt splices. The fix took me most of the morning but I work pretty sloooowly.

The motor/roller connector is very soft metal so drilling 1/8" holes and tapping for 6-32 set screws was fairly easy. The hardest part is getting the repaired awning fed back into the moounting groove while standing on my shakey step ladder.
