On my 08 there is an awning control box in the first bay behind the passenger wheel. Check for loose connection or fuse.

This happened to me several years ago on my 07. The electric motor fills up with water. The details escape me but I seem to remember that I removed a side panel on the awning (left side I think) and exposed the motor. If you look at the top of the motor you will see that the design lets water flow into it. I was able to remove the motor and empty the water out. I then drilled a small hole in the bottom of the casing and reassembled the motor. The motor worked again and has been fine since. I also put calk over the top of the motor housing to prevent water intrusion. I believe I got the instructions from the forum.

In any event, once you get to the motor it will have a part number on it.

I am not in my rig to see the instructions but I believe that there is a way to manually rewind the awning. Or you could just remove the whole thing and fix it at your leisure.

Hi hnipper,
The awning is spring loaded to the open position. Before offering possible solutions, can you say if you hear the motor running and the awning does not move or do you hear nothing?

If you need a new motor, the only place I know of to obtain a motor is from the manufacturer.

I do here the motor run but it does not retract ,
I can push on it and then the awing will roll up,when I use the remote.
I then use zip ties to hold in place.

Hi hnipper,
Thanks for the reply. Because you can hear the motor run, but the awning does not retract, gut feel says the key on the motor clutch shaft is worn out. The key is made from very soft metal. Go to Door Awning Clutch - iRV2.com RV Photo Gallery and look at the picture and narrative. A side view of the clutch is at http://www.irv2.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=13444

Sounds very much like I have the same problem (this site is so helpful)... My awning sprung out at about 55. Near an exit so I took the awning out and cut the wires. The motor runs so I think it's a part (the key, thanks Gary). Anyone know the part # and where to get?? I have the awning in the compartment and won't get to it for at least a week so I could order on-line...

You can buy key stock at Home Depot / Lowes. Just need the size.

A keyed joint should never wear out if designed and machine correctly.

I just replaced my over-door awning on my 2007 Dutch Star. The exact same thing occurred. It was not the "key", but the gear into which the key fits that was worn on mine. It is also soft and is known for wearing out. It is an expensive part - and may be difficult to obtain.
I had an additional problem, so I opted to replace rather than repair.
Best of luck.

Exact same here, got a quote on a new Dometic 975EU56... $863.
But today the supplier informed me that the awning will be shipped black (like I want) but the black fades to grey and then white. What???
Not paying $863 for an awning that fades!!

I took mine apart also and I think I can fix it using a large set-screw that will replace the "key". On mine, the damage is on the spindle that is mounted on the roller but I don't think the spindle can be replaced. The shaft from the motor is keyed to fit the spindle. (spindle is made of aluminium).

Still debating.
