A heavy (about 5/16 thick)plastic part on the upper door held by three screws, which seemingly is latched by a roller, when door is closed broke. I have called Newmar and they haven't yet been able to identify it by name or part number. Anyone know what this part is and part number ?????

Ecker, If you can post a digital photo of the part here, maybe someone on the forums can identify it, or you can also email it to the Newmar parts people to be sure they send you the correct part.

Good luck - Glenn

The broken part is known as a door wedge manufactured by PTL, the same company that most likely produce your door. Look for their sticker on the door. Call them directly and they will most likely replace the part at no cost. I carry extras, since 3 have broken in the past 1.5 years. You can not open a newmar door while the brake is off and in gear.

Jerry,
Does your entry door have a real bad rattle when the wedge is broken? My wedge was replaced in Gillette and now after driving for a while I think the roller somehow slides off the wedge as the rattle sounds like it's coming from the top cornerof the door.

John,

When my door wedge is broken (twice now), the door rattles just as you describe. That's how I know to look at the wedge to see if it's broken....If the door rattles, the wedge is broken.

Sebastian

I haven't yet determined what happened. It appears, if one looks at photo, that something deformed a portion of part. However, I can't see any way this would be possible.

When the air brake is released there is an air actuated pin in the door frame that slams into this plastic part to further tighten the door to the frame. That's that loud smack/click you hear coming from the door when the brake is released. If the door is only partially closed when you release the brake or if you open/close the door when the brake is released this plastic part will either be gouged by that slamming pin or be broken off completely.

The only thing that can engage this part on my door is a roller that moves freely up and down when I move it manually. It doesn't feel as though it is connected to anything. I can see into the door jamb when I move it up and its not connected to anything from bottom.

No need for pictures. That roller IS the interlock device. It is attached to a pneumatic air cylinder (believe it or not) that engages when the parking brakes are released. Yes it moves in the slot like it is not attached to anything, but it is.

Try this. Keep the door open, start the engine and release the parking brakes. Keep your fingers away from the roller and watch it slam up. It engages that plastic thing to cinch the door closed. Make sure you put the parking brake on before closing the door or you'll break another plastic thing. If the door is partly closed and you release the brake the force of that roller moving up gouges the plastic thing.

They have a very poor web site and so far no answer to my e-mail and phones are all leave message and we'll call you which I can't do since up where I am at in mountains of MT service is not good and I have to drive around one of the "hills" to other side to get service so I can call.

The initial contact with a person at PTL, but not Parts person, says the part is called a Wedge Block PN 019-059 Cost $14.61 ea

Is this price consistent with your purchases ??

I'm in mountains now but later I will investigate producing this in aluminum if its so subject to breakage.
