As RVDude states the fix is that channel that the cover sets in providing support.

I nearly lost mine as the cover was cracking around the thumb screws, I left roadside on I10 in W. Texas. Newmar replaced it under warranty at the factory. They included the channel as part of the fix. No further problems.

When this "filter cover drop" happened to me a few years ago, I had been carrying supplies with me which had been "left over" from our run-in with Hurricane Charlie. The hurricane shutter bolts, which have an attached washer, were the perfect size to hold the cover inplace, and have been doing so since 11/06. Yes, I carry spares, just in case.
