Driveline U-joint looks greasy

Hi. I have a 2017 Ventana Le and was inspecting the underneath today noticing that the rear driveline u-joint already looks messy like its leaking fluid. I've attached a picture (hopefully). Does this appear normal with only 4000 miles?

Looks ok to me. Initial grease blow out. Clean it up and it should stay fairly clean until you grease it again. Don't use degreaser. Use WD40 to clean.

I would say that's a good thing, as long as it's from the joint and not something above.
Many units are sent out with the grease that it was assembled with. Yours may have been greased before purchase.

Check with your dealer or service specs. They may recommend greasing the U joints and slip joint every 5000 miles. I've heard some do.

While under there right now at 4k miles..... just might as well grease them and the spline......it never hurts to keep them well greased, and they will let you know when they need greasing if not kept up with.

Spartan is recommending that the drive line yoke and ujoints are greased every 5K miles or every year. This is one of the more neglected service items which can lead to expensive repairs. Was at Spartan factory when we heard a Newmar Essex owner having 1700$ of drive line work done and was told it was because of lack being greased. Since we travel sometimes up to 10K miles on a trip we now care a grease gun so we can service the drive line when on a long road trip.

"JnC".....Looks fine. Several years ago, the manufacturers started recommending lubing the drive shaft yoke and especially the u-joints every 5K. The reason for this is the TREMENDOUS amount of torque they see during operation. For many, 5K is once a year, but for others like me, that can be 2-3 times a year. I'm getting too old to climb under there 2-3 three times a year, so I make sure it's thoroughly lubed each year when I do my annual service of the coach.

Here's a tip......If you have an air compressor, buy yourself an air powered grease gun. Even if don't have an air grease gun, they make a grease tip that locks onto the zerk fitting allowing you to free up one hand while greasing.

The Newmar Essex owner who had the drive line work done at Spartan factory had work orders showing that he had paid for a chassis lub. but it wasn't done. Either do it your self or make sure it gets done when you have service done on your coach.
