It sounds like you have the "gain" on the slide motor turned up to high. There is adjustment on the control for slide out motor that needs to be turned down. It controls the power to the motor and if set to high it forces the slide to close to tight which cause the fiberglass cracking noise. You might let up on the switch when closing slide just before it closes all the way. It is a slight adjustment on the control board to turn down the torque on the motor. You will need a small screw driver to make the adjustment. The controller is in the basement side that needs the adjustment. Tom 04 Essex

Check to make sure that the sound is not coming from the slide topper shields closing. The last sound I hear on mine before the locks enable is the closing of the metal covers.

Hope it is not anything more major than that.

Didn't Newmar do away with controllers in 06?

x2 on topper shields. Have someone bring in slide while you watch closely. You'll probably see shields jerk and hear popping at the same time. My '05 did it and so does my '09.

While your observing watch the rollers for slide as they travel up ramp and see if the metal on ramp is attached to ramp and none are loose.

While the slide is moving, be outside and look under it for anything broken. It's how we found a long, lost dish!
