Driver side window, Gone

Has anybody had their driver's side window shattered? Driving west on I-10 and probably got hit by a rock. The outside thermal pane shattered, fell apart, and then the inside window sucked out. If you have had this happen:

1) What did you do in order to drive to repair center?
2) Did you have a window shop replace it or an RV service center?
3) How is NIRV in Lewisville, TX or any recommendations near Lake Charles, LA

Plenty of experience with NIRVC in Lewisville, they are great to work with. Give Eddie Brailey a call and a heads up and he may be able to get you a window from Newmar started that way before you arrive. They have 50 amp Service and water at most sites plus a dump station on site.

A heavyweight product like Visquene or Isenglass and duct tape should be able to get you to the shop.

Wayne-

Sorry to hear. Best of luck with the repair, but can’t add anything of value. Give Cindy our regards and we’ll see you soon.

NIRVC has a great reputation, as Ann n Gene mentioned. If you were going north, RV Fog Doctor in Searcy AR also should be able to handle the job.

In the meantime, a piece of polycarbonate like Lexan and good Duct Tape like Gorilla tape should hold. The Lexan will be more expensive than Isenglass but would be quieter at highway speeds. Wood along with Lexan to allow you to see left and in your mirror may also be a solution if you can't find a piece of Lexan big enough at a reasonable price.

Spent Saturday, Sunday, and Monday closing up the big hole and putting a plan in place. We put 1.3 mil plastic on the outside and plexiglass on the inside for protection. Installed two pieces of aluminum angle to tie in the small power window frame and to tie in the two pieces of plexiglass. Had to use gorilla tape and some double back tape on outside and inside. Quite the Rube Goldberg contraption, but our background with NASA for a combined 73 years sure came in handy. Houston, we really had a problem.

Fast forward to today. We drove the 345 miles from Lake Charles, LA to Lewisville, Texas on mostly US, LA, and TX roads with speeds under 55mph. We even managed to avoid toll roads as we couldn't roll down the window. We arrived at NIRVC this afternoon, checked in, got connected to power/water. Tomorrow they are suppose to begin the evaluation for paint damage. BTW, we also lost our front AC, I guess from over working it the last few days. Hopefully, they can correct that too. Our window is on its way from Newmar and should arrive in a few days.

Wayne - my experience with NIRVC has been awful. We had stopped there in February to get a few items taken care of on our new coach. Almost all of the repairs had to be redone by Newmar. I believe we talked about a few of these when we were both at Newmar the week after Easter. Let me know if you want to chat as I really don’t want to be trashing NIRVC on this forum. Cindy has my telephone number. Feel free to text or call.

I leaned too hard on the driver's side window of our MH and flexed the frame shattering out our window a couple weeks ago. Gorilla tape, plexiglass and my wife's nurse taping skills got it closed up for our vacation. Also, helpful for easy break in on vacation when our dead bolt broke with the slide engaged. Colaw RV in MO shipped me a used window just as we returned from vacation. Have not attempted the install yet. There will be a sheet metal screw cut off inside the frame so this doesn't happen again.
