Is it best to fill the filters with diesel before installing?

Thanks

When I watched the tech do it at Speedco they filled the filters and I believe it's recommended.

Cummins says do not fill ISL fuel filters, but most shops do as it's faster than the priming process.

Cummins states the risk of contaminated fuel damaging the pump is too great.

On our ISC the instructions say NOT to prefill. The priming procedure works great and no chance of getting unfiltered fuel into the injectors like can happen with prefilling.

So, turning the ignition on and waiting 30 seconds is too long? That's all mine takes.

Just for the sake of conversation, I believe Cummins recommends filling ISM filters.

If you insist on filling your filter, fill through the little holes, as the large center hole is the discharge.

Thanks again guys. I just talked with a cummins rep. He said fill the primary and put the secondary on dry. That is for the 370 ISL.

The center hole is a normal pipe thread, get a short nipple and thread it into the hole. That will keep unfiltered diesel out of the filter.
