When I was looking for a tire shop to install the Dually Valve Stems I called one and talked to the manager. I asked him if they had the tools to bend the valve stems. He responded that if they needed bending I had the wrong valve stems and wouldn't change his mind. They were crossed off my list.

The newer Dually Valve stems do not need bending like the old ones except to clear the wheel covers.

I use a TST TPMS, Roger, thanks. 😉 I remove the sensors whenever we'll be parked for a while. Rarely have to adjust air; usually just at seasonal changes.

RJOL: "They don't sound all that knowledgeable to me..."

That, my friend....is exactly my point. I had called beforehand to discuss this installation with the service writer. As suggested by some here and other forums...this was a heavy duty truck/semi facility....not the corner Discount Tire shop. He assured me they do this often, and even sell their own brand of Dually Valve Stems...although theirs are brass. The ones I purchased are chrome.

As conscientious and safety minded RV owners and operators, WE must often be our own advocate, becoming the "knowledgeable" person any time we take our vehicle to any type of facility for different or perhaps unfamiliar service.

I have no problem with helping them along when necessary, to meet my expectations. This situation worked out to my satisfaction. I'm not complaining. I drove away happy as could be. Heck, I even tipped the guy.

I just wanted to share my experience, and maybe make others equally aware of hiccups that can happen regarding Dually Valve Stem installation.
Often things that appear rather straight forward....can become a challenge.

Hopefully, it will be less hassle for the next RV owner they encounter wanting Dually Valves installed at this particular facility. That in itself, is a good thing.

To my knowledge most/all? valve stems are brass. Some are chrome plated, some are nickle/zink plated and some are not plated. All funsction the same and have similar strength, plated or not.

I have used extended dually valves on 2 previous motorhomes. On a Sprinter based Pleasureway, the tech at the local Mercedes shop damaged the rubber grommet when he "bent" the long inner dually valve. It caused a slow leak. I discovered this on a trip and had to re-air the tire daily until I could replace the grommet. Don't do this mod just before a trip. Allow a few days to do repeated pressure checks. My first dually valve installation never had any problems.

I plan to put them on my Newmar Bay Star soon.

If II needed to bend a valve I would NEVER do it when mounted to the wheel. The MB shop should know better. I would use a tool like this.
Caution as Lowes sells same for twice the price.

Yes they are a problem on the sprinter rim. They have a very tight radius at the valve stem location. But the Newmar rims are a lot better in terms of the stem location. No problem, have had mine for two years without any leaks
