Dually Tire Valves

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong area. I searched but could not find this topic in any active threads.

Just purchased a new set of Michelin 305/70/22.5's (thanks for the discount FMCA) on my (new to me) 2006 Dutch Star 4320. Tire pressure monitoring system sending units were re-installed, but one day later, two tires were losing air pressure. Tire installer found the TPMS sending units were leaking, so I took them all off. During the installation it was recommended I purchase valve stem extensions, called gators. I did some research and found this:

DL4M Chrome Duallyvalve Kit

Has anyone used these (or similar) valve stem extensions?

Thanks

I put them on and have been very glad I did, particularly since they did away with my braided stems. My braided stems worked great but all the stuff needed to hold it in place used to cut my hands when I tried to wash my tire rims. I changed when I purchased new tires.

Permeation's of the Dully Valves exist with all sorts of folks saying they can get them cheaper. Probably true but I went with these and have been very happy.

Gators may refer to valve caps made by Alligator. I have them as well. They allow filling the tire without removing the valve cap. They also stopped a valve stem leak I had because of using balancing powder. If you get them get the Alligator brand.

I do not have TPMS.

Thanks njs42,

Appreciate the information. Will see how much this will cost to install at the tire shop. I do not plan on installing a TPMS either, unless there are applications where the valve stem is not subjected to rotation stress. I have seen some for cars, like my Honda CRV, where the TPMS is actually inside the rim, no sending unit outside.

I have solid valve stem extenders on all 8 wheels and PressurePro TPMS senders on all as well. I have no air leaks. The tires hold their pressure for week/months. I don't depend on the TPMS, but it's better to have more info at all times IMHO.

Thanks RW884, are your extenders held in place by a bracket or other means to prevent the valve stem from being pulled outward when the wheel is rotating?

I have used those in the past - they work well.

The extenders that I use are rigid, screw into the rims, and a curved appropriately so one can access them. The TPMS sensors are then screwed into the extenders. I suppose that they move a bit while in motion, but not enough to damage them as would be the case with braided extenders. There are no mounting plates or holders to get in your way. Sorry, I do not know the brand name used.

A good truck tire shop can install long bendable valve stems that point the correct direction for filling/checking. Maybe the shop that will do it for you cheaply since you bought your tires there, otherwise figure about $40 a tire as they do have to be broken down.

This falls in the "do it right once" category of things in life. I can check all my tires in about five minutes....long stems and flow through caps just like the fleet guys.

The Dually Valves that you are buying/looking at comes with a rubber grommet that centers and stabilizes the one piece valve as it protrudes through the the grab hole on your outside dual. No problem with TM sensors. I've been running them for over 8 yrs.
