Dumb question for the day 2017 Dutchstar
Where is the engine oil filter located? I see the two fuel filters and hydraulic filter in the rear engine compartment.

It would help if you posted the chassis/engine of your coach. Otherwise the answers you will get will be all over the board, and of little help to you!

On my 2015 DS 450 HP engine, the oil filter is underneath the engine, in a very recessed area. You can see only the bottom of the filter. To remove it, you will need a strap wrench with extension.

The biggest problem is how to catch the ~7 gallons of oil being drained. [emoji853]

Oil Filter
A couple of suggestions.
1. Get an awl to poke a hole in the oil filter bottom to drain it prior to removal. Makes it so much easier. After it drains, install a self tapping screw in the hole to minimize the mess.
2. Buy a drain plug with a shut off so you don't have to deal with the seven gallons of oil all at once.
If you are standing with the "hood" open, the filter will be on your left (driver side) near the bottom of the motor. I would have the valve on hand prior to your first oil drain so you can have control on your second oil drain.
Merry Christmas and be safe.

Found it, driver side, very bottom, mid engine on side of oil pan, just follow the oil dipstick, dipstick.

"Breezy2006"....If you're very careful, you can unscrew the filter, bring it straight down without tilting, and you'll only dribble some oil down the side of the filter. The new filter needs to be filled before installing, about three quarts. Double check that the old o-ring comes off with the old filter and the new o-ring goes on the new filter.

I couldn't have said it better! The only thing I have to add is this link to the drain system I use. You can start and stop the drain as needed to fill your containers. https://www.nospillsystems.com/
Also follow Dutch Star Don's instructions to fill the new filter with oil before installing.

Don....I don't get the o-ring advice. Maybe the filter for the ISL is different than mine for the ISC. There is no o-ring on mine. Only the big outer gasket. The fuel filter has the o-ring.

Yes rubber gasket, I just called it an o-ring as most understand that term better.

Do yourself a favor and put a valve in place of the oil plug. It's easy to do. I pulled the plug and stuck my finger in the hole while I got the valve ready. Then I quickly removed my finger and put the valve in place. I think I lost about 2 ounces of oil.
Now I can change my oil by draining one gallon at a time.

With large capacity oil pan like yours I have found that letting out about half the oil makes it easier because of the weight of the oil. We have a ISM engine which holds 10 gallons which when in the catch container weights about 75 pounds. You do get oil on your hand put still better then spilling the oil transferring it.
