E-Plex - Game Over

My coach went on the road on Sept 2005. It was one of the first coaches to use the e-plex system.

Today, my eplex controller died.

For coaches with eplex, you should do the following before your controller dies;

1. Add a magnum controller to your inverter.
2. Add remote sensors to your ACs and have a 5-button Dometic controller with you.
3. Add seelevel tank controller.
4. Do Something with the pump controller. When eplex dies, the water pump will be unusable.

I have removed everything except the water pump on mine. Sorta a preventive measure knowing it will fail and parts are limited. Water pump is next.

We were up at Nappanee last week and they were doing a full conversion from Eplex to Silverleaf on a King Aire. Expensive, but a lot cheaper than a new King Aire.

Eplex? So I’m in the process of buying a used 2007 Essex which I assume has eplex. Do I stop the deal before I finalize the deal ? I’m not going to buy it then have to dump a ton more money to fix this situation. Any advice?
Now I’m nervous about buying?

Being well informed about your possible coach purchase is a good idea. The e-plex situation is less a problem, more of a challenge.

The total cost for me to remove e-plex is less than 1000, if you can do the work yourself,

After going through it - I agree. Knowing up front makes a big difference and then again, you may never have a problem.

Is it a definite fail or do most fail some don’t. What’s your thoughts. You say only cost you $1,000 I can live with that but about how much of your time to do it?

That depends on how handy you are and where you want to locate the new panels. As mentioned less than a grand and can be done in a days time. I located new controls in the bath area and AC thermostat just below the original eplex in the overhead bin. AC thermostat control takes minimal time. My Eplex never failed but i did preventive measure.

E-Plex failure is a certainty. The Components fail and are expensive to replace if available at all. The bedroom monitor can fail, but that can be ignored. My main screen failed 2 months ago... a week after I completed the AC switch.

I am in Salt Lake City. Willing to help in person or here on the forum. I have documented most of my changes here on IRV2, so you should be able to review my posts to learn things. The main challenge is running cables through the walls so the wife approves.

The most difficult task is maintaining the water pump switch functionality. Cheap, but hard and not necessary if you don't mind installing switches elsewhere. The new tank monitors will cost $300 for a 1 display solution or $450 for a 2 monitor solution.

At 14 years old, you will want to replace your inverter. I did that first thing when I purchased my coach. You will need the inverter and a controller at a minimum.

The ACs are tricky. You will need to purchase the old 5 button controller to start.

The original ACs are obsolete.
So, When you buy a new AC, you will need a converter board. When all 3 are replaced, then you can replace a few other small items and get a new 10 button controller.

And are you saying you have to replace the air conditioners? That has to be expensive ?
