Easy way to SHUT UP the back up horn

I placed a layer of 1/8" adhesive felt over the horn and now it is almost completely snuffed out.....time involved.....5 seconds...

Mine stopped working on it's own and I have not bothered to see why. Silence is golden.

Yup, that loud beeping sure can be a disruptive noise. Almost hate to put her into reverse especially for early morning campground departures and late evening arrival.

As yet I haven't tracked down the actual location of this beeper/horn but assume it's in the engine compartment. Soooooo...in an 08, 4502 Essex, 500 Cummins, Spartan K2, can ya give me a quick hint as to the beeper location......ah......in case I have to "fix" it sometime???? Steve

Hi! It is on the right of the compartnent. We had a on, off switch installed up front on our last coach, so that we could shut it off when so desired. Paul

Paul: Thanks!! Sure like the "on/off switch" idea too......if I knew how to wire and install one. (Willing, but, mechanically inept). Steve

The back up alarm on our Monaco is mounted near the left side of the engine compartment and the "hot" wire for the alarm is spliced into the back up light circuit. The ground side goes to chassis. It looks like it may be an after market add-on by the previous owner, and not factory installed, but I could be wrong. At any rate, Steve, breaking the "hot" side wire with a SPST (single pole, single throw) toggle switch mounted at the dash would give you the option of silencing it when necessary to preserve the peace and tranquility of the neighborhood. Love the idea. Going to add this one to my "to do" list.

Paul's idea of a switch is great. I too had my back-up alarm connector come unplugged. Not sure how but, it made me feel less obtrusive at 5 a.m. when I have to leave a park.

However, I do have safety in the back of my mind and the switch is a good compromise.

By the way, I'm not sure it is illegal to not have a back-up alarm. I think it is a liability mitigator for the chassis/coach builders. I am not certain about this though.

Hi! If I am correct there is 2 wires that run from your dashboard to your engine compartment. They are not used and available for whatever you can dream up, such as backup alarm. Paul

There was a very large lady in line at Target. Her pager went off. A little kid says "Look out mommy, she's gonna back up."

Jetsmania,

How do you locate and identify those two unused wires (front and back)?

Ken
