Electric foot rest problem

I have a 2006 MA.
The electric "feet rest" of the passenger seat started to malfunction. The motor works, but nothing moves.
I looked under the seat, and it seems like the gear between the motor and the long threading screw is broken.
Anyone ever had this problem ?

SGB welcome to the Newmar forum and irv2.
You may have a Flexsteel recliner here is a LINK to parts for it for replacement. You could also call Flexsteel and request the parts and instructions on replacement.

Hi,

Ours just failed yesterday. It's by Villa Furniture.

Does anyone know how to get to the motor/mechanism? Where might someone order parts?

Thanks

Sebastian

Dude,

I was planning on that...and, did in fact contact them. For my year coach, there are several posibilities. The customer support rep is going to send me some information to determine which parts I'll need. He said it's a realitively easy fix. But, I'll probably have to remove the seat, and disassemble the seat from the motor. I had already figured that.....

Thanks

Sebastian

sx - I was glad to read your update that Villa will work directly with us lowly end owners w/o a dealer in between! Yippee!

Sounds like pieces and parts laying around for a spell while you determine part numbers...

Post some pics, it'll be good info here. Certainly for me at least!

Good luck!

Hi !
I did contact Flexsteel but when the lady said their seat has one gear at each end of the motor, we determine that this was not their seat. Newmar researched it, and told me it was by Villa Internatinal.
Over there, Mike Ramirez ( 714-535-7272) was very nice, sent me a PIX of the gear I described and that was it. He did not have one in stock, so he is ordering one for me. I did disassemble the seat partially, and it should not be too hard to change the part. From my first look, it seems like the motor is not well aligned with the gear, which may cause the gear to wharp or jump out of place. If so, I will align the motor properly.

SGB,

Can you post the pix. I'm still waiting for Mike to send me the picture to determine which set-up I have. It looks like I have a single threaded rod in the middle that actuates the foot rest.

Thanks

Sebastian

Sebastian,
I think you have the same part I have: Smith 210001 if I am correct.
He has received some, and is shipping mine Monday. Cost is about $ 45.00 plus Shipping.
Here is a picture. Hope I can do it.

SGB,

Yes, I think that's it too. I've got to disassemble my seat as well. Did you detach from the pedestal, or did you remove the seat from the motor assembly?

Glad to hear they have the part. I'll follow up on Monday.

Thanks

Sebastian

Sebastian and SX_RVing,
Sorry for my delay in following up on this matter.
Today, I removed the seat again, from the pedestal.
I then removed the foot rest actuator; the part I received was the right one, but the screw was about 3 inches too long. Before I started to cut it down to 8 1/4 inch as the old one was I called Mike; he said he did not think he had a shorter one, so to go ahead and cut it down, and if I messed it up, he would send me another one at no charge; make sure not to cut it too short.
So I cut it, and re-installed the new part; it was kind of tricky for a non- mechanic like me, but it now works beautifully. The autopsy of the old part revealed that the 2 plastic gears inside were completely gone.
My estimate on total time: it is about a 2-3 hours job, depending of your level of expertise.

I just received the replacement part yesterday. I'll be removing the seat soon. I'll let you know if the part is too long, and how it goes.

SX_RVing,
Were you by any chance in Chattanooga TN last night ? The Essex I saw on the Travel Park Campground looked very much like yours. SGB
