engine brake gone
After a recent replacement of the driver's window motor, I was about 3 miles from my storage facility, and 135 from the repair facility, and put on my engine brake to slow down: nothing! I tried high/low/off/on/repeat: nothing! Boy, was I furious that I just found out that the window repair obviously messed up my engine brake. I called the repair facility, told them, and they asked if I knew a mobile RV tech in the area (so I would not have to drive back to where the window was repaired). I did not, but they did, and I made a date for 3 days hence. In the meantime, I looked under the switches to see if "they" forgot to attach a wire. Then, I called Newmar and asked about fuses. They conferenced a call with Spartan, who told me where the 5 amp fuse should be. I found no problems with a dangling wire or a burned fuse. Then, the mobile tech came out, and he tested the 3 engine brake wiring harnesses in the arm rest (he said Newmar does this kind of wiring for all kinds of optional setups). Two of the plug-ins were "hot", including the one that was plugged in, but that one had the wrong pin alignment. He simply switched the two plug-ins, and it was repaired. The entire operation took 10 minutes (plus the test drive), and I will utilize his services in the future. But, in case it happens to you, know you know what to look for.
