Engine Brake or Exhaust Brake?

I was looking at pictures of a coach that is the same year/make/model/chassis/engine as my coach .

The exhaust brake on the other coach is clearly labeled as such.

My switch is labeled as an Engine Brake but it says Exhaust Brake under it.

Are there any Dutch Star owners out there that understands if I have both controlled by a single switch? I don't know if this type of configuration was available an option.

It's an Exhaust Brake.

If you still have any doubt, there's a surefire way to tell. Get going down a fairly steep hill about 60 mph with the cruise control on, and then turn on the switch. If it slows down it's a compression (engine) brake. If you continue to gain speed, it's an exhaust brake.

I believe if you had an engine brake you would have a High and Low setting instead of just an On and Off.

My engine brake is only on/off. Spartan/Newmar opted not to install the high low option.

Maybe its both?! Engine Brake when toggled Up, Exhaust Brake when toggled down.

Looks to me maybe the owner swapped out the switch.

I am thinking that's the case. The Jacob's website doesn't show a engine brake option for my particular engine. I think it's a Jacobs Exhaust Brake. I need to look more carefully to identify it.

If the coach has the 350 ISC it was built with the Jacobs exhaust brake. ISCs of that era didn’t have engine compression brakes.

For the record, our 2008 KSDP w/ 360 hp ISC has a two-position engine brake -- High and Low. It's a three position switch. High is forward, OFF is in the middle, Low is back.

I mostly use Low.

I could be wrong, but I think I have to tap the brakes to cancel cruise control before it kicks in.
