Entry door stop not holding door open
I suspect I'm missing some little piece of hardware on the hinge thing at the top of the door that keeps the door from opening too far.
Mine stops the door from opening any further than it's supposed to. But it doesn't hold the door open. Just a bit of wind can/will close the door.
I can't believe that loop of cable-tie is OEM.
There's got to be some kind of automatic or manual thingie to hold the door open that is missing here -- right?

PTL Engineering manufactures these doors. They have replacement parts. Yes your zip tie is not OEM. Here is the link to their parts.

Mine was doing the same thing, all it needed was some penetrating oil around the shaft on top flange of door, Can't speak for the zip tie but I bet if you oil it and remove the zip tie it will work ok. I think some one put the zip tie on there to keep it from latching in the open position.

OK, that makes sense. I'll cut it off and see what happens.
So if cutting off the zip-tie lets it lock open -- how do I close it when I'm ready? I guess I'll find out. My guess is to open it a little more to release the lock, then it will close. Or, do I need to reach up and pull it out of the little detent?

The zip tie provides the friction to hold the door open. There is a small spring clip missing. The zip tie is a cheap short term fix, 10 cents vs $90 for a new arm assembly. Cut off and replace with new zip tie as needed. A new zip tie should last the season depending on door use.

Pj54 has it exactly right. The little spring clip that fits around the little shaft is supposed to hold it open with friction. That little spring clip broke off and is missing. The nylon tie works great. You might have to put two layers on to make it to the correct diameter. Mine is one tie, friend has to use 2. The tie will last a long time until and unless the door slams open hard, that will usually be hard enough to cut the tie. Just replace it. The cost is right. I came up with the idea of the tie a number of years ago when Newmar was selling the entire arm for $200.00

I cut the cable-tie off this morning and that did nothing.
So next I guess I'll try putting two on and see what that does.
I gather all it's supposed to do is provide just enough friction in the circular cut-out to hold the door open.
I'll give two a try. I use good quality Panduit ties, which are thicker than the generic hardware store variety. So maybe they'll last longer too.
I was about to write an Email to PTL asking for their advice. I'll hold off now. Two layers of cable-ties works for me. Well, if it does work.

I have to ask, does your windshield shade really have two big eyes or did you photoshop them on? Looks pretty cool.

Crude Photoshop I'm afraid. It works, but I'm not waiting for Pixar to call with a job offer.
That would be fun to have eyes on the shade however. Hmmmmm.

The post on the bracket that keeps the door from opening to far is worn out, I had to buy a new bracket from Newmar for around $275.00, it works fine now.
I replaced it & there is no spring clamp on it ?

Before taking any drastic steps, here's something that has worked for us. The little, round clip around the post that engages the semi-circular cut-out in the arm sometimes needs adjusting.
Assuming that it is not missing because it broke, rotate the clip until you find the split (seam, opening, whatever). Then, using a thin-blade screwdriver, spread the split just a bit. You may need to somehow keep the clip from rotating. Easy does it as you don't want to deform or break it.
Opening up the seam just a little will increase the diameter of the clip slightly and will allow a snug fit when the door is open. Give it a try; it is a cheap fix.
If the circular clip is missing, then you'll need to replace the post.

Can someone post a picture of what the little clip looks like. I think mine is missing too. Instead of a zip tie I have 2 o-rings on mine.
