Equalizer System Failure!!

Hi All...

We're at a campground and attempting to get level on a sloped site. The front needs to have blocks below the jacks as well as the drivers side.

We moved the rig to find a better spot in the site and it's just a crappy spot; CG is full so moving is not an option.

The problem: we got the jacks down, the tires came off the ground (about 5" inches!) and we started over.

Nothing happened. The Equalizer system seems dead! It makes a clicking sound; the power light goes on it makes beeping noises like it should and when we attempt to manually level nothing happens. It has worked flawlessly in the past.

I have looked at other threads and have no idea where to look for wires, the motor, etc.

Any direction would be very helpful.

We called Newmar yesterday afternoon and they said they couldn't help because leveling and Equalizer wasn't "an Emergency". Thanks Newmar...Not!

HELP!!

Is the brake on, key in accessory position?

There is a 40 Amp inline fuse near the pump. Under the hood, lower left, looking towards coach.

I would be surprised if it was the fuse.

Is there a blinking light near the pump. This is from the manual.

"Some HWH systems are equipped with a lighted reset switch. If the processor turns the pump off because the run time has been exceeded, the light in the reset switch will turn on. The system will not operate until the reset switch is pushed.
DO NOT continue without allowing the pump motor to cool for thirty minutes."

Also check for a loose connection near the pump. Try moving wires.

From one of Redbarron's posts if nothing else works

"Also, a complete system reboot should be done. For hwh this is accomplished by disabling the inverter, hitting the salesman switch, turning off the red power switch at the chassis battery, and removing shore power."

Thank you ptw.

Yes, the brake was on.

We are going to try to look under the hood to try to repair it now. We didn't know where to start. We pulled up Newgle and went Huh?

What is the "Salesman" switch?

That is your 12v disconnect switch near the entrance door.

Thank you 757driver!

I showed this to DH and we both have found the Equalizer motor in the engine. We could only find a 20 amp fuse feeding into the Equalizer. It seemed OK and dry. None of the wires was loose. The fluid was over 3/4 full.

Regarding the Salesman switch; we have a Battery Disconnect switch among our controls which we always leave on. Is this the same thing? We were told this basically disconnects all the power and only allowing a trickle of power.

Yes its the battery disconnect switch that too many people refer to as a salesman switch.
Not real helpful for new owners, because you will not see any reference to it anywhere in the RV or manuals.

Thank you all for your help and direction!

We are plugged into shore power.

We called Equalizer and someone called us back after 5PM which was really nice!

He walked us through the trouble shooting steps we had tried and thankfully had me on speakerphone...I wiggled a wire on top and it was slightly loose. He said it was the ground and that would impact the whole system.

Beyond that he told us to tighten it, try each step and if that didn't work we would need a new controller and/or motor. They could ship on Monday for Wednesday delivery.

We tightened down the ground and it worked...kind of. We were able to retract our stuck jacks.

We then tried to level only to discover that the passenger side rear jack will not come down all the way. Crazy.

We're hoping they all retract so we can go home and get it serviced.

This was a very good learning experience. We didn't let it ruin our trip.

Thank you all for your help, time answering and patience with noobs who are trying to learn all this stuff! You all are the best!

Keep the service number close.

Might be a good idea to get some replacement ends for the connections as IMHO this will likely return.

Has happened to me a couple times solder and new connector cured the issue for now.

Best of luck,
