Essential Tools for MADP

Based on everyones list, any thing new or special? My tools are the usual socket set, wrenchs, clamps, drill, etc. .......any unusal sizes/tools that have bailed you out of a bad situation?

Jerry, as GaryKD has mentioned on these forums in recent days,I would invest in some various size blade fuses. I went to PepBoys and bought a huge assortment of all kinds of fuses,but that's just me...

Duct tape.... fixes most everything right?

I also have an assorted set of crimp fittings,a nice spring loaded wire stripper and some heat shrink tubing...Don't forget something to crimp with as well.

Bob, I have a good supply of blade fuses (5 amp - 30 amp. both micro and std. size). I had to go to Napa, Walmart and Radio Shack to complete my collection. I do not have any of the very large blade fuses. What would I use the shrink tubing for?

When your Essex slide would not slide in, do you remember if an oversize socket was needed.

I am usually the guy at the camp ground giving out parts to the people that don't plan.

Bungy cords and C clamps came in handy when my rear chassis filter service area / cover cracked and was dragging.

Besides the basics mentioned in your OP and a complete set (or more) of fuses, consider:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
<LI>box end driver for those automotive trim screws
<LI>safety road kit with the orange triangles
<LI>small jar filled with a variety of electrical connections
<LI>super champs
<LI>wire (green and red) #14
<LI>small jar filled with an assortment of screws, nuts, botls and washers
<LI>replacement 12V bulbs (not all bulbs but a variety that will keep the irritation down until you can get to a supply point
<LI>in addition to duct tape, different kinds of sealing tape
<LI>package of etrnabond
<LI>set of allen/hex wrenches
<LI>whatever you use to clean the front of the coach and lots of it.
<LI>lots of rags and microfiber cloths
<LI>whatever you use to clean the outside windows
<LI>what ever glues and epoxies you use. I carry three different types
<LI>RV caulk and a caulk gun
<LI>3 or 4' crow bar
<LI>compressor that will deliver 30 psi more than you put in your tires. And associated hoses and ends.
<LI>enough blocking material (12"X12"X2") of wood or plastic that makes you comfortable you can insulate the coach from lightening (metal jacks ground your coach) and have the coach level
<LI>8 quarts of oil (in quart containers)
<LI>one gallon of antifreeze (gallon container)
<LI>batteries for the flashlight(s)[/list]I do not have access to my coach so this is from memory.

Jerry, I am relatively certain a large socket wouldn't have helped me as the slide,if I remember correctly, goes in and out on a threaded rod on each side.
I can look at an EXDP in the morning in building 11,or maybe Peter can confirm.

As far as the shrink tubing,I carry a soldering iron and I cover all those soldered connections with shrink tubing.

Let me add some items for emergency plumbing repair...
...a couple of Flair-It couplers (to repair a leaky section of PEX)
...a 5' length of PEX tube
...and a couple of ½" male-male fittings (these are on the rear side of the your water heater, and are known to break occasionally)
...an assortment of wire ties (zip ties)

Did you repair or replace the cracked cover in the filter service area. I have a 06 4301 and my cover cracked last week coming through St. Augustine, Fl. I have it clamped in place with a c-clamp at the moment, hoping it will last until we get back to Md. late March.

In addition to tools, I carry 2 sets of fuel and oil filters, one air filter, 2 gallons of oil and coolant.

Newmar replaced the cracked cover. Not sure how many miles I dragged it, but fortunately I had clamps and bungy cords on hand. I purchased small C clamps to hold the replacement cover in place in the event the factory knob fasteners fail again.

With regard to the filter cover,I chose to replace the factory supplied knobs with long bolts. I used a flat washer on the outside and screwed the bolt through the threaded nut that was mounted on the inside,then used a lock washer and a nut on the other side of the mounted nut...Won't ever have to worry about those knobs again...

The problem I had with my cove is it broke around where the factory knob holds it on. A piece about 3 inches long broke off. The piece is still there with the factory knob.

My cover also failed around the knobs. This is why I have installed small c clamps around the perimeter.

re:filter cover,
Sounds like my mod is is like Bob's. I used sst cap screws with fender washers on the outside and nylock nuts on the backside.

Is Newmar still using those worthless knobs?
