Hi All,
Does anyone have a clue why when I turn the engine off both sets of horns go on????
I have since disconnected the auto horn and turned off the Air.
The windshield wipers also operate only by pushing the on off lots of times??
I may be forced to take this one to the dealer.

Don't know about the horns, but I had similar problems with my wipers.
It was a loose connection in the Smart Wheel.

Hi Bruce,
My guess would be the remote entry system or key fobs. Mine was behind the speedo. Try disconnecting that. I know that is connected to horns and ignition.
Thanks, Daryl

Most of my steering wheel controls stopped working several times. Took apart the connectors around the steering column. Also sprayed all connectors in the fuse department below the driver.
Now my cruise doesn't work!

I got a contact cleaner aand lubricant spray. It helps keep the contacts and connector with a good connection. I lost all controls on the steering including the horn. After I cleaned all the connectors with this spray, they all started functioning. After about an hour, I lost the cruise control.
I leave next week for Florida and hope it's working then. I'll clean all the contacts this weekend.

I'd bet it's the SmartWheel controller module. There's a ton of switches in the SmartWheel and they all communicate with a control module (aka - black box) that contains all of the switching relays to perform all of the functions in the SmartWheel. The wheel itself only has 4 wires that pass to it through a clockspring and two of those are for backlighting. The remaining 2 wires carry all of the signals sent from the wheel buttons to the controller as unique codes are sent to the controller, which then makes a decision and turns something on or off.
I had some funky stuff going on in my 2004 Allegro Bus on a Freightshaker chassis and they would up replacing the control module and all was well. Generally if multiple things happen (such as horn, wipers, lights) it's the controller. Switching off the key could easily make the controller squirt the horns if the controller's logic was screwed up.

Hi! I would strongly advise against that. Most of your functions are computer controlled. On a new coach like that you would not have corroded connections, etc. Unless you have a water problem. I would call High Line at Newmar and ask for help. Paul

Have spoken to both Carl and Jeff about this. I took apart and reseated both connectors in the steering column and all the connectors going to that black box. That seems to have cured all but the cruise. I'll be leaving for Florida next week, so I am sure I'll find out what's with it.
Maybe it's not a Smartwheel after all. Maybe it didn't graduate.

As Cruiser said, there is nothing unique about the cruise control signal in any of the wiring between the wheel and its controller. If those 4 wires are messed up, any seemingly random thing can happen to any of the functions on the wheel. If you have a consistant problem with one function, its a sure bet that its not the wiring or connectors. Wheel-yes. Controller - yes. anything else -yes.
Good luck.

Update today. While starting to get ready for my trip, steering controls all stopped functioning. Still behind the wheel after about 5 minutes, everything started working again!
Call to Newmar in the a.m.
