Thanks, but I'm trying to change "numerous" into specific (suitable for photos) locations.
From below Cummins ISM 500 - passenger side of engine.

Your starter only has a 12v battery feed the ground is derived from the mounting bolts, into their bolt mountings and frame of starter.
This is a repeat of other grounds found in your coach also.

As far as I know, the engine compartment "Master Disconnect" only has positive cables. ???

Understood. However, the chassis battery(s) negative is attached to frame/engine/starter somewhere. And ... the somewhere is ??? In theory, the negative cable should be short and attached to frame/engine as close to the battery(s) as possible.

A Denso starter is a good solution. I tried that on my ISX but there wasn't enough clearance between the engine and frame so I'm stuck with the OEM starter. Even with 4 new 925 CCA batteries it balks at times.

Might have been the P/N .... I noticed that some Denso models hang "upside down" to get the armature in a different place (below the frame). I see that Delco is now subbing a reduction-drive starter for the old unit.

My 02 MA has a large ground going to front battery distribution box. And a chassis ground on the generator rail top. But most grounds are connected near starter motor chassis stud. Just learning now that there is a denso starter issue to track. Knock on wood, mine starts nicely.
I thought I took a pic of the battery wires before disconnecting to replace to AGMs. I didn't. Forced me to track each wire down and label to know hot from ground and chassis from engine cables. Took hours of time. But all seems to work.

Thanks Dave! After watching your postings, I think the Essex is configured differently (I'm all electric). House bats are in a tray ... last compartment passenger side. Chassis bats are in a 2nd tray (a 1/2 compartment) forward of House bats. In other words, all bats are within 12 inches of each other. All bats are within 3 ft. of the Cummins.
For clarification, Denso good ... Delco less good ...weirdo brands bad.

Didn't trace it but it's hot (+12.7 or so).

You will read voltage but it should be off the negative post of your chassis battery.

The Master Disconnect (mechanical switch in engine compartment) is installed in the positive (B+ chassis) side and matches the schematic provided by Spartan (pages 73/89 - 79/89. The wiring (positive side switch/disconnect) conforms to ABYC (marine) code for switches and disconnects ... not necessarily the same as RV but a credible standard. The house side disconnect relay is also in the positive (B+ house) side.
