Purchased my MA with a defective keypad (touch pad). Read a lot of posts about this issue of bad keypads and how one should upgrade to Essex 1700. The dealer agreed to supply a replacement keypad and I install... I now have the Keypad (a 1701) and I know I have to make the mounting hole a bit larger, no big deal. Now I see in my litterature that I have a Marksman M2A system also and a transmitter (which seems to work well). I am assuming that the 1701 is plug compatible with the Essex controller and that the Essex controller feeds signals to the Marksman controller to lock/unlock? In other words, these are two independant systems from two different manufacturers that work together to lock/unlock my doors. Am I on the right track?

Yes they are 2 different systems. The 1700 replaces the old keypad. Connect the new keypad wires to the old wires, matching same colors. I ended up soldering the wires.
