I have seen the Essex style power table dinette in the MADP and I really do like this unit. So I am wondering it anyone has seen variations on this.
In my ideal world I would be able to use it as either a dinning table or lower it to a coffee table position. It also would be nice to remove it so I can use the bench/seat area as a sofa. We plan to eliminate the small jackknife sofa in favor of a workstation/desk area. So my idea is to have the dinette essentially provide the second sofa. As far as I can tell the power table is not easily removable, but my idea is to somehow remove it and put it on a coffee table height base.
So I am wondering what others may have seen on this front and fishing for ideas. Help!!
I saw a luxury homes TV show that featured a big custom class C on a peter built chassis. It was built by a retired walmart exec to travel to rodeo. ( The same episode also featured the terra wind amphibious 40' RV) But the interesting part to me was the dinning table basically lifted out of the floor and up to either coffee table height or dinner table height. I doubt I could get Newmar to build this feature, but I thought it would be perfect. Basically the surface of the table was floor tile so it fit right into the floor when lowered. I realize that some may find the footprints on the table unsettling, but everything is a trade off!

If you can design it and are willing to pay for it, which includes Newmar's design, engineering and building costs, then Newmar will probably build it for you, but it WILL be costly.

I had the power table you make mention of in both my Essex and the LADB and it was NOT removable as all of the parts were bolted together and fixed.
We did run the table out all the way and use the dinette area for general seating, but one still had to navigate in and around the table.

I think you have a workable idea. My power table, like the previous poster's, is connected, but that doesn't mean it can't be modified. In fact, a telescoping post would do the trick for you. Never seen one, but if it can be imagined, it can be built.

Actually a hi/lo telescoping post was my first thought. But then I thought that it probably needed it to come further out when low than the max on the motor unit. So I then began thinking of a way to remove the table and put on a base unit. Then I thought about storing the base and such.
After all that thought I was tired so I rested, and then came to the realization that someone must have done this before because it really is not that unique an idea.
So now I am hoping to hear about what others may have done.
Based on Sue's advice above I have begun thinking about implementation for a table to lift out of the floor.
