The 2008 Essex comes standard with a color rearview monitor system. As an option you can get a remote controlled camera. My existing coach has the standard camera and I am having a difficult time trying to figure out how I would use the remote controlled camera. Any comments either way on this option would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for all the great help on this forum.

As a solo driver the remote cam - though expensive - is absolutely worth it. Probably the most critical solo option I have. I use it all the time while backing and to verify my toad hitch. While backing I point it straight down to see when I am at the curb/obstruction. That straight down perspective is superb for pinpoint distance sighting. No running in and out. I swivel it sideways to verify my rear side clearances in clearing side obstructions. No guessing distances or blind objects in mirrors. On long haul backups I can shoot it straight down the road and it works like my windshield. For normal driving I set it to view both toad and rear traffic as typically done. After hitching I use it to verify the toad hitch engagement. It has a two position programmable memory (driving and hitch position) and full joystick like control. You can see the control for it on the right middle of the pic below. It is the white buttoned control.

I also had it routed to a dedicated video display so as to have it active at all times and not crowd it with the Pioneer AVIC display. You can see the display in the upper left.

RVDude,

Thanks for the great response on this subject and the Oasis system. I noticed you have the 4502 floorplan which is what I want. Do you any words of wisdom on mods to make this plan even better.
Thanks
Gene

I also support the remote camera option. But I added the remote option and told them I also wanted the standard too. This required ordering an additional in dash monitor. The standard camera has a better low light operation allowing it to see better in the dark. I learned this prior to ordering from a Newmar technician. And, yes, like RVDude, I use mine for looking straight down at the hitch when needed and back similar to a rear view mirror.

I'll throw in my .02 worth as I chose the stationary camera. My primary use of it is to check when passing a vehicle. I adjusted it so that as soon as the vehicle disappears from view, it's safe to pull back over. The wide angle lens also lets me see the towbar.
