Remember the problems some of us have had with the Evans Tempcon electric water control valves? While reading the Evans site for another reason I stumbled across the fact that Evans changed the vendor for this valve circa 2006. Hmmmm...... I wonder if the new valve works any better than the old valve (which most assuredly is a piece of junk)?

Evans Tempcon Troubleshooting Guilde

Corrected no vendor, Evans is supplier.

Great find... I am going to order a new valve to retrofit my old one that does not work at that well.

We replaced the Evans valve in November 2007, it came with a wiring harness adapter kit, indicating something had changed. The accompaning data sheet was dated April 2006.

Thanks everyone, but before anyone runs off to buy a replacement valve, perhaps a call to Evans is in order to try to find out the reason for the vendor change. I was just guessing earlier... these things happen all the time in the automotive parts industries.

I'd volunteer to call Evans on Monday, except I'm off to Merrie Olde Englande tomorrow so I don't think you want to wait on me. Any volunteers?

ps: Thanks for the striker bolt, Dale!

Could you tell where you ordered your replacement valve. I am having a little trouble finding out where to order. Thanks

I spoke with Evans Tempcon about the new valve. It is the same design just a different vendor and a different pin configuration and that's why the pig tail adapter is supplied.

The design of the Evans system is called a "stacked" HVAC with the heater core sitting in front of the evaporator. The control valve is not designed to be a "blend" type valve per si. So, if you adjust it to change the heat level it could take as much as a 1.5 mins to see the complete change, according to their tech gal.

The replacement valve (RV218999) can be ordered from Comfort Air 616-454-2200 and ask for Dave.

Dale--

If you get the new valve, let us know how the change-over goes, please.

I thought it was interesting, on their website, they had this big deal about picking a service center, which time zone you were in, and all of the links went to Grand Rapids, MI.

One man office??

I have a 1999 DP model 3884 with the Spartan chassis. My heater control valve started leaking, it has the 5 pin connector. The inlet hose goes from 5/8 to 3/4". I was told the RV 218809 is the replacement with all new wireing. The cost is around $190.00 for it but the RV 218999 is $150.00 comes with a short wireing adapter. Whats the difference and will the 218999 work for me?? Thanks
