We are rapidly approaching a decision on whether to buy an extended warranty on our 7 month old coach and with which company. We have Newmar 2009 42 foot, mid engine 400 HP Cummins, Allison 3000 Trany, which will be one year old October 21 and currently has about 6,900 miles on it.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. We are currently looking at proposals from Protective and Good Sam.

Don

Three things a person should never do:
1. Pay credit card interest
2. Kiss a goat on the lips
3. Buy an extended warranty.

I have done 1 & 3 but if I had known 30 years ago what I know now ..... I would have been looking for a goat and left 1 & 3 alone!!!!

JoeT, #2 implies it is OK to kiss a goat elsewhere, other than the lips.

OK, Dave and Wingman, what did you buy. How much, with whom, how long, how many miles, etc. Did the policy include goat coverage?

Hi Don,
You know your coach. If the coach has been relatively trouble free and there are no existing big troubles, consider putting the $s in the bank. The service contract will cost several thousand dollars. Do what allows you to sleep at night.

Don - Bought a new Winnebago in 2005 and dealer offered 7 year extended warranty for $2500 which I took. I don't remember the company and I never used it but it had a cash back clause if not used and when I sold the coach to a private party in 2009, the transfer provision helped seal the deal. When I got my Newmar last year, my dealer offered 4 year/40,000 mile deal for $1200 which I must decide on by August. I've got mixed feelings at this point on exercizing that option. The company is Assurant. I recently got a quote from Good Sam and they were substantially more for like coverage. Like Gary says, depends on what you feel comfortable with.

I bought an extended warranty when we bought our 2006 for way to much money. Sold the coach in March. Cashed in the warranty and got back like $2300. What did I use the warranty for??? Step motor only. My new coach...no extended.
I think I agree with those that say no to extended warranty.

Ed
