Extended Warranty for Newmar Dutch Star

Hi, Just wondering if anyone has any advice for us as to extended warranties. The factory warranty on our 2008 Dutch Star will expire on June 4 and we are wondering what successes people have had with different companies. I should mention that we live in Canada. Is it possible to get an extended warranty that covers the same things as the factory warranty? Thanks for any help you can give.

If everything on the coach is working, consider putting the $s in the bank. The trick with extended warranties is that they require you to have completed all the manufacturer's recommended maintenance. You need to keep all the documentation for these maintenance service calls. If there is a failure and you can't produce the documentation, they may/will deny payment. This is a hidden cost of these contracts.

Your engine, transmission and chassis are still under warranty and possibly some of the appliances. Those are the big ticket items. I recommend you keep your money and use it for the small item repairs. Many people with extended warranties (extended service plans) complain about the headaches and stress of trying to get the ESP's to actually pay for repairs.

I for one took the advice of my fellow members.. In Jan of this year I purchased a new 2008, (never been titled). During the the purchase, the rep explained that for the price you pay for a coach, DSDP 43' that it would be smart to have the extended warranty. It would cover anything for only $50.00 at any time during the 5 years. I was only $16,000.00 more. So I said why not. So I paid for my coach and the extra $16,000.00. After getting home and thinking about it did seem like a lot of money. After posting what I paid for the extended warranty, a lot of my fellow members thought I had lost my mind. And one member I have come to respect stated that the dealer saw me coming. And the more I thought about it, the more I agreed with him. On the back of the contract it stated that: If no claims are made, and I choose to cancel with-in 60 days of purchase, I could get a full refund of the amount of the policy.. So I contacted the dealer, and I must say they did not give me any problem at all. I filed the paper-work they wanted, and I had my full $16,000.00 refund with- about 3 weeks. So if I am lucky I will not have to use the full amount on repairs. I fell lucky that I put that kind of money out, and got every cent back.. I was afraid there might have been some fine print, but there was not.. So thats my story for what it is worth.

We also are Canadian and had to provide our winter USA address to purchase a Good Sam Continued Service Plan. I cancelled it last month after almost a year and recieved a 73% refund. I was concerned about the fine print and the fact that our principal address is in Canada. As stated earlier, the major components are covered for a while yet. I'll deal with repairs as they are necessary.
