BOB: when we toured the Fleetwood American Eagle plant in Decatur, IN. the chirpy college intern told us the entire group MUST stay together, and no one was allowed to return to the office waiting area until the entire group did. I suspect this is because they can't have people wandering around un-escorted. ED

I thoroughly understand the concept Ed and appreaciate yout explanation, but her words just seemed to come out with the image of being struck with a table tennis paddle....

I've been through several other factory tours and just wanted to offer my thoughts on Newmar's edition...

The BBT's working fine now and as long as Howard RV is just five hours away and near a beach,it can't be ALL bad.

If it has to go to the factory for anything I'll be hiring a driver to take it there unless I get some positive response to the email I fired off to them... That's an issue discusssed in the other topic.

Bob,
Sorry to here about your deal at the factory. Let me say our experiences there were as complete an opposite as I can think of. Darla, at least with us, was one of the sweetest people we have dealt with.
At the end of our 3 days watching our Mountain Aire being built, she had us come back AFTER the afternoon tour was over. She then escorted us(my wife and I plus a couple that had came that day to see the unit) to our unit which was being prepped for paint. We then had about 20 or so minutes to inspect, gush over, or any other thing we wanted to do. Darla, in the meantime spent the time talking to the workers in the area and doing some paperwork she had. It was then us that said we were ready to leave.
We got our Mountain Aire on Nov 8th and after filling it with our junk, we left MI on Nov 19th and because our dealer didn't have time to look at it, we drove to the factory unannounced. We told them our problems(a very sticky slide and a very loose fitting side door) they told us they couldn't work on it that day, but they would try to work us in the next. At 6:30 am the following morning, they took it in and had us ready to go by 2:00pm that afternoon. As far as I'm concerned, Newmar and its people, the ones you have mentioned, have treated us better than expected...DAVE

Dave, I am glad you have had good experience with Newmar and Darla.....You and Peter Mercer seem to be the ones with all the "good" luck.

After my experience with them, arriving unannounced would be the farthest thing from my mind...We were not in a position to know whwt "day" we would arrive with any degree of advamce notice as we were called by Cummins and told when the coach engine replacement was completed and we flew out and drove it back....
THEY contend they don't "work people in" without appointments, you and Peter sure throw that one to the wind....

After today's shredded fan belt and subsequent "second time around" in less than 60 days of waiting three hours on the side of the road for a wrecker, I'm probably not the one to be singing good graces of Newmar, let alone I had to replace a solenoid this trip as well to get my levelers to work...

Too many issues in a new coach....hope it gets better,as it can't get much worse right now.

Bob,

For the start of the second message, Sorry your having problems with your coach. Thank goodness,we've only had minor problems and most, though not all, have been resolved.Right now,we're setting in Grand Teton National Park, and I talked to 2 MHs, one Essex and a Dutch Star, both with Spartan Chassis and they came by way of Teton Pass(10% grade) without much problems. Pretty impressive I think. I know I wouldn't try it............DAVE

I've checked all messages and seen no comment on use of cameras. Are cameras permitted at Newmar and Spartan ??

Cameras are indeed permitted at Newmar, but I have no idea about Spartan.....The closest Spartan facility to Newmar is in Charlotte,MI although the chassis are built in Spartansburg,SC.

HERE is a recent factory topic with some pics in it!!

Charlotte,MI is about a five hour drive from Nappanee.

I took the factory tour and have pictures posted to the photos section of this site. They are under GaryKD and in the Newmar tour album. Bob must approve the photos before they can be viewed, but that should be pretty soon.

Thank you for the quick approval. It is appreciated. FYI, I met Road Pilot at a CG yesterday. We are both heading for the Newmar Rally in Essex junction.
