I am intrested at buying a MH in a couple of years and decided to take a few factory Tours. I will be in Nappanee on June 13. Is there anything special I should look at or take with me. Thank You in advance.

WilliesRD, when you go on tour ask to see the paint area, the tour doesn't go there unless someone asks. Ed.S

We went last year. My wife had on open toed shoes. Found out they will not let you in factory with open toed shoes. Went back to campground so she could change shoes.

We were just there about 3 weeks ago. Take the afternoon tour, as they let you look inside some of the finished units, but not on the morning tour.
We went to the paint area and did not have to ask. That may also be the afternoon tour only.

Same problem last year, we were 2 minutes late and they had canceled the tour(no one else there), had to make a phone call to the corporate office but then we had open toed shoes-no tour! All the other builders had no problem with shoes. Presently ordering a coach so will make sure they schedule us!!!!!!!!

Winngebago and Coachman probably only ones we didn't go to. Went to TS, Monaco, Renegade, NRC, Haulmark, Dynamax, United Spec.,etc, etc. Newmar would not accept socks and since there was no shoe store nearby. You would think they would have shoes available. There attitude was not the most pleasant. Luckily, I guess, it didn't detour us from continuing to look at Newmar.

Dave, can you imagine the "reality" of a recreational vehicle manufacturer bring "tasked" to provide shoes for those that tour their facility?

I'm sorry, but I disagree here....I would no more expect them to have shoes for me,nor would I think it proper to wear sandles or open toed shoes on the production floor of a MANUFACTURING plant...

When I took the tour of the Winnebago facility,we actually walked in the area where they dip the chassis...It was FULL of gooey stuff that'd I not want anywhere near my piggies...
We walked on the floor near the plastics production plant, where there was plastic "dust" everywhere.

I believe when we are permitted to visit these places,we should abide by their rules and normal daily practices....These rules are geared toward keeping us safe.

Sorry about the request for shoes(as I meant a slip on throw away cover which we have used in our own factories for tours) as the issue was not really about breaking rules. It was the way the company handled the whole situation, it could have been handled much better and we would have gone away(without the tour) feeling more positive towards the company. (PS-No mention was made when we called about special clothing)

HERE

is a link to Newmar's online series of 12 videos detailing the process of construction...

It's a good substitute for those that can't make the factory tour,as it brings the tour to your desktop.
